As each day passes the likelyhood of Travis Cloke leaving Collingwood seems to increase. If he was to leave who would the pies chase to replace him. Surely they dont have the talent on their list to cover him. We have seen this year that Cloke and Dawes will not be dropped as their is nobody on the list capable of doing a better job.

McNamara - not yet
Willits - a ruckman only
Ceglar - a ruckman only
Keefe - coming back from injury, doubt good enough
Paine - not a key position player
Reid - a backman only. Not enough tricks to be a forward
N Brown - see above
Tarrant - retired
Wood - average ruckman only
Jolly - pinch hitter at best. Top ruckman getting older and more injury prone
Dawes - would be dropped now if there was somebody else

I could not imagine Collingwood losing Cloke and going into 2013 with any realisic premiership chances without adding a decent key forward.

Ive been informed that two FS coming up at Collingwood could be the replacements. Stewart and Moore.
Haven't seen them but the wraps were as big as Hawkins
I think both are 15 or 16 years of age. Realistically they will not be playing full forward and centre half forward until 2015 at the earliest. What do they do for the next couple of years ????

If he left i doubt they could pay what Tippet or Adelaide would ask for in return so... Take a chance with an unknown player from another league, pinch a fringe player from another team seems to be their best chance.

Recruit Fev? could be his only hope but i doubt it.

One of their biggest problems would be that there seems to be more demand than normal on this type of player this year limiting options for replacements.

Stewart is eligible for this draft. Not rated super high though. Definitely nowhere near as much as Hawkins was. If the Pies take him, I think it will be for something like a third round pick.
As Shade said, Darcy Moore (he's 16) has pretty big wraps. He'll be better than Stewart.

As for Cloke, I agree it will be hard to replace him. If he isn't firing, winning a premiership will be hard for the Pies, imo.

Collingwood are smart enough to negotiate with GWS, to get Tom Lee as one of the 12 previously listed players with an AFL club.

I thought GWS had 1 Spot for that but That is a Possibility of that Happening though

Also heard the Pies are Looking at Possibly Sam Day from Suns

Paine can play KPF - Same Size as Fev was. Showed a bit in the VFL. Ceglar has also played well.

Gault has been good of late in the VFL

Day, signed until 2014 and would take something incredible for GC to give him up

Well I do agree with you mate and I am only going off Wispers so it could be Total BS and I think we would have a better Chance of Getting Tom Lynch

Lynch is also signed. You have pretty much no hope at either.

Lol at Mcnamara "not yet"

His got 1 more game of AFL let in his life left, and its in the vfl this weekend.

The same was said about you guys and Mooney, but an old man by the nickname of Pods has a premiership medallion now.

They could give him up if they got Tippett. I doubt Cloke will go to Adelaide so as long as the pies can satisy them or another party satisfies them, it could work

Cloke leads the comp in contested marks this year. He is currently on 54, however last year took 95 including finals. He is currently on 45 goals after kicking 69 last year including finals.
His Stats are considerably down on last year but as we can all see he is making some impact. Also watching Cloke people can obviously see that he is double teamed and smashed in the contest a lot this year. Despite this he often brings the ball to ground allowing Blair, Sidebottom etc to pounce.
He is going to be very hard to replace in the short term. Dawes would need to step up big time and a second ruck would be required.

The answer is: unless we get Schulz, Hawkins, Pavlich, Buddy, Tippet or Riewoldt - there is no way we are going to come close to "replacing him" - and let me assure you I know we won't get any of them. Agree with your summary of the above players, except Paine is definitely in the same mold as Darling - however probably won't reach a high AFL grade until late 2013-2014

I think our best option in terms of structure, unless we pick up a Tory Dickson in the draft, is to have Ceglar, Dawes and Jolly playing, with Cegs and Jolly splitting time 50/50 between ruck and FF and Dawes at CHF.

Add to this having a Fremantle type FWD structure with 1 CHF, 1 resting ruck and 2 small marking options in Fasolo and Elliot. Like Freo do with Pavlich, Keplar, Maine and De Boer (although not strictly a marking option).

It's good to see some neutrals have a proper conversation about it though, good thread

If Cloke ends up leaving the Pies, i reckon they will chase after Goddard.

I know he's not an exact replacement as a KPF, but he is the best player who is potentially available as a free agent.

Surely the only thing not keeping him at the Saints is the want to win a flag...

I doubt it.

If they trade for Goddard they lose their compensation pick for Cloke (as compensation is net under the FA system), assuming they could fit Goddard under the cap anyway.

The better option for them is to use a later pick (let's say 2nd round onwards) to trade for a mid level player (preferably a forward) who wants opportunity and could play immediately but wouldn't take up a heap of cap, or get that type of state league player in the draft. Then in 12 months when they have the cap room and it doesn't lose them their compo pick, go at a free agent.
