List Mgmt. Request for AFL assistance in 2026

A hot take but i would happily trade one of our premiership cups for a wooden spoon this year and next as we have never ever embarked on a proper rebuild till now.

I don't think that's a trade you have to make since we'll probably finish last this season and the next and get Pick 1 and Pick 2 for 2027

Shocked at the suggestion we are "too proud" to ask for help. If we were proud we'd have pulled our finger out years ago. If we want to be proud in the future, ask for what could be a potential push start, don't sit there doing nothing to help ourselves and have another two decades in the abyss.
We were too proud to trade Merrett less than 6 months ago.

I maintain that everyone exploits the AFL to better advantage themselves.

Be it northern clubs with draft picks, Geelong with under the table deals, Collingwood flexing the pulling power of the black and white when fixturing etc.

We'd be stupid not to ask the question, manipulate it and actually gain an advantage these successful clubs are doing.

I think it depends on whether we get the spoon or not. If we get that and win 2 games or less i think we'll ask and receive. We are no chance of asking or receiving without the spoon. 0 wins would be ideal. My guess would be an end of first round and end of second round in 2026, an end of first in 2027 and an extended rookie list for the next 3 years. This would be the middle ground after we'd asked for more (pre-listing our NGA players without having to match bids) The media will push this late in the season while hopefully the club is working hard behind closed doors. Cal Toomey will be leading the campaign in the media. As i said this is just a guess and relies on 2 wins or less and the spoon.

I doubt we could get any special assistance like priority picks.

But I would be happy if the club could (alongside Blues and Port) get the AFL to relax the new rules around F/S and academy for clubs that are bottom 5, or who've been very mediocre for a number of years.
