Geelong beat us with a forward running midfield in the first half.

This is something we lack.

They would have been instructed and encouraged to do this by Bomber(as in most games) especially knowing that we don't have the same potency to do likewise.

Juddy has been hounded as having lost it, however the West Toast had a forward running midfield!!!

Which players do we need to prune from our side to create this?

We need to get rid of Carrazo, Bentick, a few others as well. I don't really care that he won our B&F he is a dud and our last 4 B&F have been duds, show how low we have gotten.

We have Stevens, Murphy and Simpson as our forward running midfielders. They just got chased down last night. To be honest, I don't think this is an area we're lacking. Maybe we could use a speedster though. - Like Davey or Kennelly. If we're gonna stick with this link-up handball game plan, we need a player who can run the lines at a million miles an hour.

thanks - I have been saying this for a long time. We need a Woginski that can run through the lines. We were our best when we had Ang, Hanna, Mackay that could do that. Possession accumulaters that square the ball and lack penetration like THornton and Carazzo are no use to us

isnt walker & gibbs best suited to that role, sure walker is injured but why is gibbs still being protected as a half back flanker.

totally wasted in that role & will never show what he has
pagan was critisized for putting him there yet ratts apears to be happy with him there.

totally un called for in the context of your argument but anything to have a pot shot at Thornton hey?

We have the forward running mids that you want - see below and add Judd if he could be relieved of always having to get the hard ball (he has to as Bentick is the only other one who will)

Here is a crazy thought for you - don't get rid of your bike unless someone is offering you a car

Like Wojcinski or Kennelly

Earlier in the season our problem was, we had too many one way outriders and we looked untouchable when all the momentum was going our way, but when the opposition started getting their hands on the ball, they strolled in numbers through our midfield under no pressure at all. Our midfield included murph, stevo, simpson, scotland, all predominantly outside ball users. There was no balance, hence the poor start to the season. After round 3 this was addressed and now we are much more balanced, a lot of this is thanks to judd and bentick. ( who are masters at locking the ball in when we dont get first use out of the ruck) As we rarely will win ruck contests, until kreuz and hammo develop a little more, we should be shutting down their midfield and make the most of when we get our hands on it first!

We have trouble breaking the lines from half back, walker is our man for this! But this is one of our weaknesses IMO.

This is what we need Chris Judd to be doing. It's easy enough for him to get the ball in the middle of packs and on the Half Back line, but we need him to start getting possession from the Centre/Half Forward line. We all know he can hit a target on the lead.

Well done you have hit the nail on the head. With the exception of Stevens and Murphy we massively lack fwd running mids. Unfortunately as these two are closely watched we need our second string players to charge fwd. AFL football is about aggressive rebound running football and we simply do not push back or fwd quickly enough.

thanks CC :thumbsu:. Just trying to help those few supporters with common sense in their battle to educate! ;)

People need to learn about a little thing called balance. Against freo bentick was arguably our best, not because of his 31 possies, because of his work around sandilands. while sharking as many taps as possible, he did well to lock in the ball and prevent easy freo clearances. Sandlilands dominated the ruck, but bentick was the one that enabled us to dominate clearances.
