Thank you, I'm not talking about the coaches, I'm talking about BF. We look at his games and say 'oh only 1 goal,' 'oh only 3 goals, not good enough' and yet he's being thrown all over the place. I'd bet you a fair bit TDL has never been put at FB and look at him, kicking 5, 6, 7 goals.

(And before you jump in and give me another condescending post about how TDL isn't a FB, I was deliberately over-exaggerating.)

I would actually say that TDL does not require time in defense as he does not have similar issues to White. TDL has had other things that he needed to work on.

Nice change of the post though, although it wouldn't have mattered because that was not my intention. And even if it were, I am pretty easy going.

Maybe we should stop judging him on the amount of goals he kicks then? Especially when everybody can read the report on most of the games recently to see he has been playing down back a bit.

Fair enough, just found you telling me that he needed to go down back as part of his development from the coache's POV, and me not knowing what the coaches want from him pretty OTT when of course I don't know what the coaches want from him, but I'm just agreeing with what others are saying which is, from what we can see, White seems to be doing the right things and he and TDL work off each other very well and should both be in the team on a permanent basis with Reid if only to build for the future - that dreaded F word.

So Proud that currie is backing her performance week after week good to see hes trying!

Cant believe we let then back in by so much we didnt even score a goal or something in the last?

Oh well and win is a win!
OK, put him in as Seaby is a spud

I see their ACT boys are bitching about our academy top ups returning us to an unfair advantage.

Is it justified or is the fact they sent total shite or in some cases did not send their allocated toppies at all have they made their own bed?

Really where did u hear/see this

we have been very lucky this year that we have had a very solid bunch of tops up we've been able 2 have each week instead of chopping and changing over pervious years which has caused some games to be unsettled

Liz/Grim would be the best to explain how well and not so well out toppies work

but what ever Canberra get used 2 it

The complaints can be seen here in posts 62 and 63 http://bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=816056&page=5

There is no doubt the standard of the toppies have improved. First and foremost, having them train with the reserves team and coaches, and being familiarised with their game plan is a big difference to having 6 or so skinny boys turn up on the morning of the match. (Having never been to a Canberra game I can't comment directly on their standard but from second hand information I've heard they haven't been too crash hot). Secondly, a few of toppies have been around and have played in the reserves for a number of years - Potter, Guthrie, Lynch immediately come to mind and I think Kenny has too.

However, these critics seem to forget that the Reserves were going really well last year too - top of the ladder with 11 wins 2 losses and a draw before losing 6 straight (including 2 finals) to crash out of contention. What happened? Basically the number of listed players dwindled due to injury and once the number drops to about 12, they struggle to cover the gaps with the toppies. We haven't had such problems yet this year, I think last week against Ainslie with 13 listed players was the lowest and we still smashed them on an away ground. You can attribute this to having some experienced and mature players currently stuck in the reserves - Moore, Bevan, White, Meredith and Currie have been around for some time now while TDL and Sumner are/were on the fringes of first-team selection.

Also, credit should also go to Playfair, Crouch and Maxfield who have been the main coaches in the reserves. Even when the side has been up by a big margin and the outcome of the match settled, they continued to play disciplined football, sticking to their assigned roles and tasks diligently.

I am extremely fearful of what the Swans may do to our Tigers lads this week. Could be ugly!

Hey Soph, I looked out for a zany lady in red & white on Sunday but none were found...Did you not go?

well i was meant to drive down back jackson was working all day saturday didnt want 2 drive down late so we decided to give it a miss

was really bummed out i should have just gone with out him :[

Abh if you could give me three or four Tigers besides Kavanagh to look out for on Sunday I'd really appreciate it

Ryan Quade #2 you would be aware of, has started playing some good football, marking strongly ATM.

Travis Bull #45, have only seen him twice, really impressed me against Tuggers but was quiet last week. Strong lad, will ruck and play up forward. Good hands, athletic build

Kane Stevens #10 young lad who was on GWS list as season or so ago, has a touch of class and has a dip.

Alex Overs #14 another young gun who has pace and a real dip at the footy.

Mitch Heaslip # 35 has the look of a wild man and plays like, has a real crack and will be keen after last weeks average effort

Mitch Daniher #15 sure you know about him, has won the last 2 Mulrooney,s and has been down on form of late. Expect him to break his form blip.

Tim Cook #17 exciting player that you never quite know what he will do next. Has dash and bravery

Well said Grim, but it does show the comp is still not up to standard for a AFL ressies side.

This will be a benefit of the NEAFL. The ACT teams have come up short against Swans Reserves and GWS. They have also been whacked against QLD teams in the crossover games. They will go hard to improve and step up next year for sure.

In QLD the introduction of the NEAFL has made all clubs work hard to lift their standard to ensure competitiveness against AFL reserves, Canberra teams and NT. The Suns ressies are 5-4 and the Lions Ressies are 3-6 (9th), so obviously the QLD local clubs are competitive and the comp is up 3 notches on last year. The Suns play unrestricted and Lions are allowed 18 listed with 15 on the field at a time (they rarely have this many available). Their top ups can be up to the age of 21.

My view is that the likes of Ainslie will see this season as a massive wake up call and go really hard to significantly improve next year. The question is, will the less financial clubs be able to go with them?

Here is a stat for you Brother Grimm.
Loins 105 - Swans 30. This was the final tally taken from the bench rotations at Giffin Park last Saturday!
