Offer him a year. Low dough.
If he says no let him gamble in the PSD. If he takes the year then he could be traded. Who ever gets him will know they have year to fix him or say see-ya-later. If we dont trade him then we have a player in the system that knows it's now or never.

He did sfa today. The best can be said is he looked no worse than everybody else.

Like just about every player on our list, he isn't strong enough for someone who has been in the afl for 4 years. Do they not believe in weights down there? If he's going to be a slow, under size key back/forward, at least be a big/strong unit.
Having said all that, he pretty much always looks up to afl level, and I hope we manage to keep him. God knows we need some KPP depth.

Didnt pay much attention to other freo players going up an congratulating him etc but if it didnt happen i can understand why.

He seems alot like warnock cries about not getting enough games at freo but does stuff all at WAFL level and even WAFL reserves level to deserve a game but when finally given an opportunity does an ok job an looks better at AFL level than the lower levels.

If he'd actually put in an effort at the "lower level" then he'd have more games at AFL level under his belt by now.

I'm not entirely convinced if he deserves another contract. I'm going to wait and see his last two games.

Games so far.

Freo v Port
Wasnt shocking had a couple of good touches, but didnt have an impact on the game
Freo v Melbourne
I thought he was one of our best players. Yes, he was beaten in defence but he didnt stop trying. (the only player who wasnt beaten in defence yesterday was Tarrant)

Exactly.

Drum will ask for a trade, hopefully in these last few weeks he can get more than one club interested in him. Otherwise, he will be walking for nothing...

Drum may ask for a trade but at BEST we will only be offered a 3 round pick for him. Lets face it, he has not set the world on fire in any aspect of his game whether playing forward or back.

There is NO way on this planet that someone is going to offer us the Number 10 draft pick that we used on him.:mad: Massive loss for Freo.

At the start of the year I couldn't care less and probably wanted him gone, but recently I think he has shown a bit. Especially given the lack of KPPs at freo and the shallow draft this year it would be a dumb act by the footy dept. And they would have to have some faith in him because they allowed him to change numbers last year, they don't let the shit players change for the hell of it.

I doubt most clubs would even look at him, cant get a game in a side that is 15th and doesnt have the best KPP going around.

We cant keep persisting with mediocre players who dont give it there all and fight when things arnt going there way. I just watched the replay too and apart from one good tackle he was pretty average (dropped marks and was slow with the ball).

I dont care if no one wants him, I'd still delist him to free up another spot. I mean we picked up Broughton with our last rookie pick and he has been one of our most consistent performers this season. Not to mention that I think Pearce has much more value than Drum, so lets look for a few more mature WAFL players rather than persisting with a guy who has done so little.

There was an article on Drum hidden away in The Age sport on the weekend (it wasn't written by one of their main footy writers and sorry I can't provide a link). It was quite a downbeat interview with Drum and highlighted how quickly a young player can go from a bright hope to having no AFL career.
He admitted suffering homesickness and that he struggled to get motivated playing for Perth. He said he found it difficult fitting into a WAFL team when he did not train with them. Also said he didn't think he deserved to get dropped after the round one Bulldogs game but accepted his form wasn't good enough to get selected after that.
It sounded like he had no definite offers from other clubs and was unlikely to be at Freo next season. More that he was hopeful of getting another chance somewhere.

Three years on, still a way to go

http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnew...ay-to-go/2009/08/15/1249756483042.html?page=2

Entering the final year of his contact, and with the Dockers having lost a number of players to retirement, he felt confident he would become an AFL regular in 2009. Instead, he has endured his most frustrating season. Selected in the team for round one, in which Fremantle was thrashed at home by the Western Bulldogs, he was promptly dropped and failed to make another AFL appearance until last weekend.

"My form probably hasn't warranted a game but I don't think I should have been dropped in the first place," he said. "I find it hard to get myself up to play in the WAFL. People don't realise that you only go to the last team meeting of the week at your WAFL club, then you play on the Saturday. Sometimes it's just not enjoyable."

At least with him coming in and playing well has put some trade value into him, if we dont offer him a new contract.

Went through the years WAFL reports with Malaxos to try and see how the club would be feeling with him. IMO he has had a pretty rough year.. Is good defensively at CHB but doesnt get the cheapies to lift his stat count to around 20 a game. I can understand that... playing for a team where you dont know the names of players and how they like to play, they just don't kick it to you sometimes. Then moved forward as a leadup CHF with moderate success, in between injuries and Perth byes.

This is his form for 09 going off what Malaxos saids in his reports each week:
AFLR1: Good. Was dropped
WAFLR2: Good. Played CHB
WAFLR3: "A steady game" Played CHB
WAFLR4: "A steady game" Played CHB
WAFLR5: "A steady game" First game as a forward.
WAFLR6: Injured
WAFL R7: Injured
WAFL R8: Injured + Perth Bye
WAFL R9: Poor. Second game as a forward. First game back for injury.
WAFL R10: Good. Third game as a forward.
WAFL R11: 50/50. Good as a forward. Then sent back on Ash Hansen and got pants.
WAFL R12: "A steady game" Played CHF
WAFL R13: Injured
WAFL R14: Injured
WAFL R15: Poor. Was thrown around. First game back from injury.
WAFL R16: Perth Bye. Played for EP Reserves. Was Tagged, played wing
WAFLR17. Good. Played CHB
AFLR18: Callup for Port game. Played CHB.
AFLR19: Retained spot for Melbourne game. Played CHB.

If we delist him, it will be Zac Dawson all over again.... only with us :(

I don't think he should have been dropped either.
His comments explain his average WAFL form.
His game against Melbourne suggests to me has the talent to play AFL and only makes it more difficult to understand why he couldn't crack a game this year. In the one game he has played as a forward he kicked goals, he's young, tall with good skills yet we've wasted a year improvising up forwardwith spuds like Murphy, Campbell, and makeshift forwards who can't kick like Grover and McPharlin.
Inexplicable.

easy to explain
Harvey only likes guys with plenty of heart and passion and if he drops them he expects them to do atleast something in WAFL.
Does that attitude sound like any of the young guys harvey an co have drafted lately?

Piss poor attitude sure it does sound like it would suck never training with wafl guys then walking in an playing.
So DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT pull your finger out an perform at your best to demand selection for Freo then give it eveyrthing an make it hard to be dropped so u wont have to go back to WAFL.

I dont rate him as a defender and he is def no where near the right strength to be a KPP player.
His only hope is in the half forward line on the flanks.

I understand your argument Sman but it's not like we were spoiled for choice and there are plenty worse cabbages with poor WAFL form who were getting walk up starts like Thornton for example while you have Gilmore getting a million possies a week and he can't crack a game. It's hardly consistent.
Drum doesn't even look like getting a chance to play as a forward and we don't really even have a full forward (Pav excepted). Mayne will obviously make a decent fist of playing out of the forward line but he wasn't even around most of the year, likewise Des.
I like and understand most of what's happened this year at selection but the treatment of Drum still baffles me. Why did he lose his spot after Rd 1?

Obviously there is something about his work and attitude on the training track that we don't see.

I would say cut him away if were Adam Cambell's age. But he is still only 22. Talls dont hit their strides until they are 26-27... That is a long away.

Honestly I would like to see the club give him a 1 year deal and push him so hard during Pre-Season he coughs up a lung. He has talent there is no question on that. Perhaps it is something simple like mental maturity which all players develop at different stages of their careers.

The club should roll the dice and bulk him and Michael Johnson up during the off season and see what happens. A forward line of

Headland, Pavlich, Drum, Mayne, Ballantyne and Ruffles could be pretty interesting.

Then Michael Johnson, Tarrant and Mcpharlin as your talls down back.

Agreed all the way through that post.

Obviously not the most confident of people and as had been said harvey usually likes the forward and aggressive types. Prob a good thing as u would be ripped to shreds after a while in the AFl without those attributes. He needs to grow up a bit, grow some balls and we should give a him a one year contract.

Agree with most of it.
The bold bit is rubbish though. 26-27??? Give me a break. Why bother drafting KPPs then and investing 7-8 years in them? It's not like he's 211 like Sandi to need that long. Might as well just trade for KPPs when they develop at other clubs.
