I. Have. No. Words.

this statement is beyond idiotic
Yes. Completely. Hmm, how about you grow up and stop calling my statements idiotic because they disagree with your views? Not a great role model for your kids there teaching them to be intolerant.

Attack the post and not the poster bradey :)...and do yourself a favour and don't mention my kids, hmm?

I have no issue with different ideas...that are thoughtful...intelligently presented...etc

Ok then, why don't you play by your own rules for once. And I'll mention whatever I want as long as the reference isn't derogatory.

Also, if you have no issue with ideas that are thoughtful and intelligently presented, why have a problem with mine? I explained my point in simple written English. Do I have to put it in thesis form?

The big issue is Harry Taylor has looked well suited to AFL from day dot.

Thats the issue with your idea. Majority think its ludicrous to suggest Taylor is out of his depth at AFL level.

He's not matthew scarlett but he's a pretty good understudy.

He's the Hawthorn version of Zac Dawson when Scarlett is out of the team. He's not a good defender at all and only a decent user of the ball. Broughton is already better.

He regularly cleans up Nick Riewoldt (except for the last game).

Your really off the mark on Harry Taylor. I think you need to understand footy a bit more. The guy is a natural AFL player and I wish Freo had him.

How can you even say he regularly cleans him up? In the last 3 games against the Cats Riewoldt has been one of the B.O.G for his team in 2 of the 3.

You tell me I'm way off the mark.. and you make that type of statement that has facts to tell a different story. Well done.

He's kicked more goals on average against Taylor than he has in his career. That is a win to Riewoldt there. They play him closer to goal against Taylor because they exploit his lack of strength and inability to defend against a bigger body. He's already 23 and 91kg, he's not going to bulk up much more.

Just because Riewoldt has had some good games and beaten Taylor on a few occasions doesnt mean Taylor is out of his depth!!!! Riewoldt is a champion who regularly carves up everyone!
Ridiculous Bradesmaen absolutely ridiculous. Taylor is a good AFL player on his way to becoming very good, maybe not elite but still a very good player and better than most of our young big blokes!!!!

Rubbish statistic. That takes into account his early seasons. Better to compare his averages for the years Taylor has been in the comp (2008-09)

Riewoldt: 43 games, 124 goals, average 2.9 goals per game.

Taylor keeps him to a below average game.

You really are shit human being, Bradesmaen.

Statistics are rubbish in the first place. There is only one way to judge and its not statistics. There are way too many factors to put in place. You're talking about him playing with an extraordinary team and defence. Scarlett playing as a loose man allows him to help Taylor on Riewoldt. The pressure from the midfield of Geelong and the scoreboard makes a significant impact too. Just look at StKilda this year. Zac Dawson is not a great player, never will be. He is as good as Grover and look at the difference between the two this year. Dawson looks like an AA fullback thanks to the extreme defense of the StKilda midfield to pressure the ball as it comes into the forward line.

Of course playing in an excellent team helps, no one is denying that. But the thing is, Taylor is selected in an excellent team. Drum isn't. He can barely win selection in a shithouse team, and will probably be delisted at the end of the year. That's the difference.

I would rather have Taylor on the list than Drum. So would most sensible people.

If Geelong had a completely fit side and one more better defender then he wouldn't be playing imo. Drum should have been in a long time ago in this side, even as a defender. He is much better than half the shit that was playing at FB at times. I mean seriously, Thornton as a key defender? Grover was playing "Lets see how many Free's I can give away". I know Drum wasn't playing great in the WAFL and had an attitude problem. But **** me, whats more important? Wins or teaching on solitary person a lesson?

I tell you what...if Riewoldt kicks 7 goals against us in the 3 games I'll be bloody ecstatic, and if you read those stats he's only getting 13 possessions a game on average against Taylor

i think everyone is forgetting that we cant delist everyone in one year. if you wnated to this year you could delist browne, head, thornton, drum, campbell, murphy, obrien, foster and off the rookie list connelly. the point is you cant just delist 9 players from a squad in one year and then just expect the young guys to step straight into it.

out of all the guys listed Drum is in the lower age bracket and has all the aspects to become a good footballer. we cant keep peresisting with the campbells and murphys on one year contracts for the next 2-3 years. Time and Time again they have been handed opportunities and consistently failed. at least Drum is a bit younger and can still be turned into a good player.

The bombers have been in exactly the same predigament for ages. What happens when fletcher retires? Well they only just nabbed Hurley who looks a star.

We won't fix all our needs this draft. We can afford to wait another year or two before grabbing a KPD.

The thing with Essendon though, is that they rebuilt their defence over two years. In 2007 they picked up Myers, Pears and Hooker. While in 2008 they finished it off with Hurley. It's not like they just picked Hurley, and suddenly everything fixed itself.

As for waiting a year or two, it's pretty much guaranteed that the Gold Coast will be signing/drafting the best KPP's on offer. While West Sydney will be doing the same thing in a couple of years.

I think we can afford to wait a year or two to really focus on our defence, but we need to at least start this year.

For me, that would involve obtaining another third round pick and taking Chris Luff. But what it could also mean, is that Drum is kept around for another year and hopefully bulked up a bit.

14 players looked like a massive intake last year but with the benefit of hindsight they should have been more brutal because we've had to put up with Brown, Thornton, Gilmore, Head getting games this season where as if they had been de-listed last year the match committee would have been forced to play the kids earlier.

Five national draft picks and one PSD selection looks a good balance so if you want to upgrade Broughton, DeBoer and Pearce we'll have to cut 9 players.

Agree in some parts and disagree in others. I think our defence has already been partly fixed by the introduction of Suban, Broughton and Hill. Suddenly we are not devoid of small defender options. Think back 12 months, without Hayden we were rooted against small forwards. Now we choose from Broughton, Suban, Duffield, Hill and Dodd as potential defenders.

Yes we are missing a young key position defender. But it can wait a year or two. McPharlin and Tarrant aren't done with yet.

I don't think Drum will correct any of our problems. He's undersized as a key position defender. He doesn't have the application of someone like Dodd. Suban and Broughton are definately streets ahead in the small defender options. Duffield and M.Johnson have him covered as rebounding options.

I don't see Drum filling any of our deficiencies. If he grew 5cm and put on 10kg maybe he could become a class key position defender. But if your aunty had balls she'd be your uncle....you get my drift.

Delist.
