I am not sure how many of you feel about this issue.

Looking in the West Australian today, I naturally came to the Pre-Game inside the paper and opened it up. I saw the article on Bryan Martyn's funeral and felt uncomfortable about seeing the man's coffin with his Jumper and number draped over his coffin.

I am not unhappy about the jumper, but the element of sponsership on the jumper. IMO, I think all sponsership should be removed on a jumper that is displayed with a coffin during a footballers funeral.

I may be old fashioned, or a prude in some people's eyes, but I feel that it is wrong.

I know in this day and age sponsership is important to the clubs, but I think a funeral should not have any kind of sponsership at all.......


Just wondering your thoughts on the issue.

i saw the footage on the footy show last night and thought the exact same thing.

i think (but could be totally wrong) that that jumper was the one that mick wore during the last game that was dedicated to skinny.

even so, sponsorship at a funeral would be a new low.

Most likely the club does not HAVE a game jumper that is without sponsorship. I don't have too much of a problem with it, it's not as if Mazda was paying the Roos to have "Zoom Zoom" front and centre or anything.

Mind you, I would have thought it would look better to have the jumper the other way round, so you could see Norf's stripes instead.

If the sponsorship logo was part of an original jumper worn by the player then I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.... however if thats not the case perhaps they could come up with a jumper without the logo.. or maybe just position it so that the logo isn't so "in your face" so to speak

True, but I think they do it that way to display the number the player wore at the time......but I agree the jumper would be better shown than the number.
