I will be first to put my hand up and admit that I predicted the Pies to finish between 7th & 10th at the start of the year. Being a realistic supporter, I was questioning their depth & waiting to see where Mick would take the young lads. Evidently he has done an extraordinary job & credit to the boys, they have performed exceptionally. As the year has progressed they have demonstrated that they are a great team who play for one another with a never die attitude. There were a few games where this can be challenged, however this can be applied to most teams.

In recent weeks they have manufactured 2 wins against the grand finalist’s of 2005 & 06, albeit a very close win over the Coasters who forced the game into overtime. Heading into the Semi versus the Cats, many have the Pies written off. Although, I personally do not advocate complacency, there are sometimes extenuating circumstances that cannot be ignored. Geelong have had the break, the Pies were involved in an epic final that went for almost 5 quarters & have had to endure the journey back from Perth. Additionally, let’s not forget about the AA team which is represented by 9 Geelong players. Irrespective of these facts, I believe that there is a genuine chance for an upset, after all it is finals football.

In the event that this does not eventuate, there will inevitably be an abundance of non Collingwood supporters that will do their best to tell us all how pathetic the Pies are. Regrettably, this is what you come to expect of Big Footy. I can comfortably speak on behalf of most supporters & say that we are so proud of our boys & their efforts this year, that any sledging would be rendered useless if they were to fall short of another GF appearance… We are all very appreciative of the fact we will get to see them play at least 1 more game this year. If you feel the urge to bag us, do so but if I were you, I’d be focusing on where you believe your team can improve next year and maybe generate some worthwhile conversation.

Moving on, I would be interested in your opinion on why you believe the Pies or Cats will win… The tone is set for what could arguably be one of the biggest games between 2 Victorian sides in quite some time. Bring it on…

You typed all that for nothing. I yawned after the first line.

Put it on the Collingwood Board.

With all due respect, it's not up to you to start a thread proclaiming respect to the Pies. You're a Pies supporter, of course you're going to be proud of them.

It only means something if it comes from opposition supporters.

Btw I tipped you lot to come second last - but mucho respect for knocking out the eagles. You have my undying gratitude - for a week at least.

Well, go to sleep...

You clearly lack comprehension skills, I specifically put it on the main board to get other peoples opinions... Particularly, to deviate from any Collingwood bias...

i understand why you have posted this but unfortunately don't think you will get a great respone due to you being a collingwood supporter.

for what its worth, i tipped collingwood to be around 9-12 and will admit i got it wrong and have a new found repect for the pies.

with regarding to this game, think you guys will go down by 15- 30 points. wont be through lack of effort but think the cats have too much depth.

Good Luck :thumbsu:

I'm biased but have sensed a lot of opposition supporters have started to give the Pies some respect.

Firstly we were overachieving by luck however now I think the consensus is that we are overachieving because of the great team spirit and never say die attitude. Tackling and doing the 1% things are often applauded by all footy fans and this we have done better than all IMO.

They still hate us though and to be honest I wouldn't want it any other way.

Go Pies!

It was funny earlier this year as I was having an argument with a Pies supporter about where they would finish. I was pressing the point that they were similar to the cats of '05 and would fiish 4-6. Most Pies supporters scoffed at it and throughout this year there have been many Pies supporters who under rate their own abilities. Even now they face Geelong and the sentiment is pride for the efforts of the boys regardless of the outcome on Friday night. This game isn't going to be the blowout a lot have predicted and whoever the victor on Friday night will be the eventual premiers.

FWIW I think the Cats will get over the line in a tight contest but I look forward to a match that is worthy of the stage it has set.

I hear what you are saying regarding the Pies. I had the tipped to miss the 8 so have to give respect for a great season. But this applies even more so for the 'Roos, how many people had them tipped to be bottom four? They have had a brilliant year, and without the services of Nathan Thompson. Respect to the Kangas!!

Ah well, we've been copping that since day one.

sorry but at this point there is very little respect due to collingwood.

why? basically gifted a 8 spot via a biased h&a draw & your recent wins have been against what 'used' to be quality final sides on the slide

respect, only way to truly deserve it this year is to go all the way, & you have my heartfelt commiserations cause the cats just ain't going to let that happen

Respect has to be earned, not dribbled out and forced onto people via bigfooty.

I will reserve my judgment on Collingwood after Friday night. So far I have seen them gifted an easy draw which they did their best to stuff up and they then played an old and stuffed Sydney and a WCE without their 3 best players, it also took them until extra time to win.

you are also a hard man to please but agree with the quote

Why should we respect them again? They finished 5th last year - so based on that they haven't really improved on where they were last year. It's a misconception that they've made any ground at all (relative to other teams).

Bugger them! - I just hope we pour pain all over them tomorrow night.

Well there you go. This is the first time I actually agree with you mate. :thumbsu:

Geelong will smash the Pies. This is not a dig as I actually like the way the Pies play their football.

They will dominate in the clearances & will be hard to shut down.

We finished 8th last year after being smashed in our first final. We were considered to have overachieved in that year.
We traded away Chris Tarrant, who was one of the best and highest paid players at the club, who had a 20 year old in Travis Cloke shoulder the responsibility to replace him.
We had our captain sidelined for the entirety of the H&A season.
We had our reigning best and fairest winner and most dangerous forward sidelined and hampered by a knee reconstruction.
We had our previous B&F winner and best defender sidelined for most of the year with calf injuries.
We debuted more players than any other club in the competition.
We have won two finals against the two grand finalists from the previous year with a third of our team 20yo or younger.
How much more do you want before you consider it an improvement?

Geelong's 2007 improvement is great - well done to them, but you could argue it has been magnified by the massive underachievement that was 2006. The previous year they were a quarter away from a grand final. The previous year collingwood finished 2nd last.

The pies are not pathetic. Anyone who watch the WCE game knows that. The hunger exhibited by those lads was nothing short of amazing. Noone could plausibly bag the team. The supporters on the other hand..................................................well no one can be responsible for a little trollish baitnig of them. Its just too easy

You finished 5th and got smashed by the 8th place team. I could cite 4 other teams who have all improved more and performed better than Collingwood when you compare with where they were expected to finish.

Port (improved 10 places and still in the hunt)
Kangaroos (same as Port)
Geelong (improved 9 places and finished 3 games clear on top, still in hunt)
Hawthorn (finished 11th last year and have exceeded everyones expectations this year)

I know you have a few things going against you this year but don't pretend you're the biggest improvers this year. Not by a long shot.

Mind you, if you get over us tonight I will re-think my views on this. If you don't then my post still stands.
