This blokes just to valuable to be taking any sort of risks with. With the series won and Mcgrath and Dizzy both more than able to continue on, plus back up coming from Inness,Bichel,Dale etc for the one dayers. Why take any risks with a seriers against an improving pommie side coming up soon? Let him rest up and come back with a fully recuperated spine and the ability to bowl for many summers yet. Otherwise he could be another Tyson (my friends old man reckons hes the deadset spitting image of 'typhoon') who quick as he was, only played for about four years at top level. Be a shame if Brett turned into another Reid,Bishop etc.

I agree. We have proven we can win without Lee (and S.Waugh for that matter) so we should rest our dangerman. When he has fully recovered, he will be welcomed back into the team and make us a power that will not be reckoned with

Absolutely agree. It's a good chance now to try one of the young pace bowlers around the country and give Lee a break. After the three test quicks there aren't too many who could slot into the side immediately.

If Lee hadn't been fit for the Perth test who would have been his replacement? Probably Bichel as he was in the squad but he isn't going to terrorise anyone.

Brett Lee is going to be doing a lot of bowling over the next 10 to 12 years and hopefully this injury is only a very minor, short term problem.

Also lets noty forget the Aussies tour India after the Ashes next year.

This is looming as a huge assignment to try and win a test series on the sub-continent.

We would want the best side we can possible get to give us the best chance of really nailing this one.

cheers

Lee is vital to our chances of knocking of india on their home territory, his brutal pace, early swing and then his reverse swing are going to be instrumental in our chance of victory. In india we will need to play three pace bowlers and one spinner, That is if our attack is McGrath,Lee,Gillespie then Warne, mcgill or miller one of these three for the spinner spot. We won't beat india with spin, we will only beat them with brutal fast bowling, similar to what the windies use to do on the subcontinent.

Why use three "fast" bowlers in India?

Most of the pitches are dustbowls; slow and not conducive to quick bowling.

Two quicks, two spinners.

I would go for 3 quicks & Magill or Warne (if fit & in form).

Dust bowls or not genuine quick bowlers are always dangerous & if last years series against India proved anything it was that the Indian players don't like the quick stuff (except for Tendulka).

Anyway they love spin bowling so why play to their strengths.

As for Lee he should be rested.

My point exactly drakey, we often go to india and think we need to play so many spinners, but the indians love spinners so we just feed their strength if we play them. With spinners we will chase totals in excess of 450 as we have in the past, lets just see what some brutal pace does to them.

Absolutely agree - why even consider playing Lee when the series is won. There is nothing to gain here - also tell the guy there are no prizes for being the quickest, you'll will never see that in the scorebook.

India and the Ashes will be a stern test for the Aussies - England are on the improve and will be desperate to knock us over.

Well why don't you all ask Jod, he thinks Lee has NO skill only pace!! I argued this point with him in the chat room!!
FOOL!!!!
Did anyone read Sunday's Herald Sun?? And read what Dennis Lillie wrote about him?? And I think he would know what he was talking about, I think that will answer any queries about him having pace as his only asset!

Just knew they wouldnt rest him.

One day hit and giggle in the most boring season EVER and they play arguably the future star of the side instead of mothballing him like they should have.

What a waste. Probably get a recall if he is fit for any one dayers in India if the selectors can rush him back.

It's really tragic hey. I'm blaming it all on Steve Waugh, I mean he should never have put him in the outfield (? Don't know much about cricket) like he did. LOL, j/k. It's really sad though, with just coming back from a back injury and all.

I can recall not long after Brett Lee made the test team there were queries about his action. It puts way too much stress on his lower back. To my memory, he did modify his action somewhat, but this was always going to happen.

There has been an unwarranted emphasis on his speed, which culminated in a shootout (of sorts) with Shoaib Akhtar during Pakistan's tour here. That can't have helped.

It's a shocking waste of talent. He could have been one of the truly greats. If that sounds like an epitaph, I'm sorry. But I really do fear for his future.
