also a six day turnaround between the two finals. that was a big factor.
It was, need to keep in mind that we might have another 6 day turnaround if we lose the first final (not out of the question if we're being honest with ourselves). It depends on a few things. But could well be playing Friday night home SF after Saturday 1st week final. 2 interstate games followed by a 6 day break is not going to be ideal.

We've got to play this smart.

With this weeks results a 3rs spot is confirmed, it now make round 23 now a dead rubber. We will finish 3rd whatever results fall next week.
I think it's time to rest Mundy, Mayne, Johnson (if Luke is in) and possibly Ballas. Do any of you guys thing it's flirting with form? I'm just worried about travelling 2 weeks in a row.
Yeah rest atleast 2 of these players for sure!

Im thinking Mundy and Ballantyne, give some young guys a run in the midfield and forward. I think Mayne can handle travelling twice, same goes for Johnson.

We didn't rest McPharlin last year and look what happened. We have adequate replacements for certain players, use them.

We should rest Ballantyne, Fyfe, Spurr and Clarke.

Bring in Crozier, C.Pearce, Chrichton and Sandilands.
Oh yeah, definitely rest Clarke, we REALLY need him fit. Cant afford for him to get injured, with sandi injured he is one of our 3 most important players at the moment.

If we rested Clarke, it may actually be better for Hannath. He is more depth as ruck than KPP at this stage.

We could trade spots with Sydney still. Well it is an opportunity to bring Sands, Ibbo??, Pearce?? - resting a few is not out of the question - nothing like Harvey's Launceston stunt (which I loved nonetheless)

What's one more week for elite athletes?

I'd say we would benefit far more from continuity that we would from 2-3 rested players. Consider the fact that Crowley still tags when we play GWS, Melb etc. as case in point.

Yeah I would like to see Crowley rested - or play him as outside wingman - let him win free footy, he deserves it for one match and give Neal the tagg responsibility

Agree - I wrote the same thing in the gameday thread after biting my tongue for a half.
My train of thought ( humble opinion, not professing to actually know ) was that whether a physical advantage gain of resting a week, keeping in mind an elite fitness base is present may not outweight the mental disadvantage of suffering this type of loss.
Obviously, the club will do everything to manage the mental state of the players but yeh, I wondered why there seems to be a thought process behind 'an advantage' in playing one less game.
I'm sure all teams that reach and play in a prelim wouldn't have an issue with playing again the following week - and similarly, we don't see the quality of footy drop off through the finals series ( opposite if anything ) .
I'm sure the fitness staff would have input one this one but mental effects are far harder to measure. Just look at saints today - they went in knowing they would throw everything at it to honour their mates and they had decided we were a second rate team due to knowledge of our changes in advance so in their mindset was that such a positive mental state that the outcome to them was almost decided...if the game was actually tighter it would have been a obvious in their risk taking and playing style. particularly if you compared saints this week versus them over the past few weeks when they were mentally shot.

I know we'll mentally "get back up" next week but why have to bother with the effort of "getting back up" if the physical detriment was shown to be minimal by playing one extra game ??
