Well guys, despite the insipid effort, the football gods have generally smiled upon us with the exception of the Dogs winning - although at least they didn't win by much.

If by some miracle we can win the last 2 games we'll probably get a home final in week 1. And 1 win may well be good enough to make the 8 as long as that win comes in Round 22. Hopefully no-one at the club understates the importance of at least playing a final, even if we get flogged. The experience is absolutely critical.

I think we have not dropped our bundle and rolled over at all this year despite some poor performances when we were playing a lot of young blokes.

We still have the longest streak in the AFL of not being beaten by more than 10 goals. That shows that we have not rolled over for a long while.

I reckon we need a new midfield coach though as We have been dissapointing at the stoppages more often than not for a fair while, usually depending on how fit Hase has been on any day.

You would have to agree that this year that when We are on, We have played the best footy that We ever have.

Our Squad has more genuine depth and We have found quite a few players.

That 1 point loss to the Saints may cost us but I am not about to get negative until it is all over.

Interesting to hear Dermie say that we were actually leading the league in contested possessions in the last 4 weeks prior to Friday night game.

If we can regroup this week we are still a big chance.

dogs getting up hurt us heaps. The percentage we lost against WCE also hurt us. I think it is still possible for us to make the finals by just winning 1 game.
Bris play port next week
western play melb
Hopefully wce don't get the trifecta, losing to the dogs, beating us, and losing to geelong.
would like to see Melb and port win next week.
then we would have to beat port in the last round

I reckon that loss, and the one against the Hawks, will be the ones that will haunt us if we don't scrape in. All the others can be justified or understood (even though it may be painful or not sit comfortably for us) by injuries / late withdrawals / red hot form of opposition etc.... however choking against the Saints, and losing to the second bottom placed Hawks at home - are definitely "the ones that got away". Had we won those two, we'd have out 12 wins, and wins against the Saints next week, or Port in Rd 22 would be icing and have us better placed for a home final.

However, I'm not going to dwell on it till the fat lady is singing her aria.... and that has yet to happen.

If that's how you analyse footy, its not surprising freo is up&down like a yoyo all seasons - plenty of decent talent but unable to capitalise on it. Whatever logic you follow, freo won't play finals this year - no way. Enough games won already. St Kilda is your daddy and when was the last time you won a game at Footy Park against the Power - its called home advantage and you have wasted yours by losing to wooden-spooners like Hawkchicks!

The one that might keep us out of the finals though, is the loss to Brissy. I know that we were missing our backline, and they were bouncing back with Brown in top form, but take 1 game off their total and add it to ours... that ladder looks very different. It would put us at 6th, a game clear of the Gee, Dogs and Melb on 10 wins and Port 9.5, Bris 9 and Rich 9 struggling.

It's the same as last year. The game that hurt us the most last year wasn't losing to the Saints, Eagles, Pies or Roos, but to the Bombers in the Friday night skycam fiasco game. Switch that result and the Bombers drop out, we go in.

You simply have to beat those who are competing for the same spot as you... of course it helps if you beat all those well below you too, but the "8 point game" to call it by it's Laidley name is critical.

Freo with the bookies are the underdogs against the Saints and Port, so as all Freo supporters know :-

We lose games we are favourite, we win games we are given no chance.

Que sera, what ever will be will be.
