OK all, this will be my one and only post on Big Footy, the site that has given me so much.
I'm a Norwood supporter first and foremost. Always have been, always will be. I used to follow Melbourne (same colours, club song, etc. pretty much a no-brainer) until one fateful day soon after I moved to Brisbane. A mate and I went to see the Lions play Richmond at the Gabba. This was when BNE were stringing together 10 odd wins on the trot. My mate was a Swans supporter, so we were both neutral and drunk. Outside the Gabba a Stepford Wife decided to give the Richmond cheer squad a mouthful, good intentioned but directed to the wrong people. One particularly old school specimen replied "what's your f****** club song then?" The ultimate band wagoner shut down. So I decided to follow Richmond with interest, because Brisbane fans were shitting me tearless.
I'm not a rabid supporter, I have a fake singlet from Bali, and people that know me know that I support Richmond. However, I'm now afraid. After so many years of watching things go from bad to worse to mediocre to good, I now worry that I'm going to take a hipsters approach and start thinking of everyone I see with a Tigers sticker as that woman in front of the Gabba. Am I going to be one of them? Will my lack of true in-depth knowledge set me out as one of the Johnny Come Lately's? After Friday's game I'm really nervous......I don't want them to fail again, not for my sakes, but for the sake of the people like the cheer squad mullet man. They deserve it.
FWIW, watching Bomber direct Hird last night reminded me as to why Essendon are even half way decent. Throw enough money into something and you'll get a result. Pillocks.
