Retiring numbers

Reading Rooboy 96's topic on favourite numbers (Kangaroo Forum) got me thinking. In Basketball and Ice Hockey they retire their superstars numbers when they hang up the boots.
Would you like to see this happen in the AFL, and if so, what number/s should be retired from your club, or do you think it's a greater honour to have the number "passed on" to future club champions?

devo its a good thought but i think there is something special when a young player is handed a number from a past star
seeing mark johnson get number one after mark harvey (although andrew ukovic was inbetween) is something im sure both are proud of
matthew lloyd - paul van der haar (although they thought the same thing when they gave todd ridley the number)
james hird - terry daniher

I kinda agree with walshy, what a thrill it would be for a young kid to receive a number of a club legend, but then again, there is some merit to the idea of retiring numbers, it's a tribute to the player.

Perhaps just reserved for those with incredible records, such as Tony Lockett, etc etc

This kind of thing happens at Richmond as well with due respect shown to our revered numbers. This is why you see Paul Broderick in 17 (Jack Dyer, Maurice Rioli), Jason Torney in 29 (Kevin Bartlett) and Duncan Kellaway in 3 (Dale Weightman).

Richmond also try to ensure the sons of past champions are also given the numbers their fathers wore - regardless of team. (Joel Bowden 11, Matthew Richardson 12, David Bourke 30 and Matthew Greig 27 since delisted))

This is a hallucination and these faces are in a dream. A computer generated environment; a fantasy island you can do anything and not have to face the consequences.

JubJub you once again show how incredibly stupid you are, in fact Collingwood have retired Number 42, how ironic, hey Jubster you little turd?

Plus we've had more star players then your precious Girlong could ever dream about. Men like the Coventry brothers, Ron Todd, the Colliers, Bob Rose, Des Tuddenham, Peter Mckenna and Len Thompson. To the modern day champions like Tony Shaw, Darren Millane, Craig Kelly, Gavin Brown and the miracle man Peter Daicos.

I'd like to see you match that list you little prick.

ok so we retire the numbers of superhuman footballers, let us see....

1 Les Foote
2 Stan Alves
3 Jimmy
4 Rosco
5
6 Arnie
7 Goode (never forget that goal in the 80 night grand final)
8 Phil
9 Cabes
10 Stevo
11 Arch
12 Monty
13 Law
15 Blighty
18 The King

it would just go on and on... bloddy stupid idea......

but on the other hand imagine the pressure on the next youngster to be given #18 at Arden St......
