Jail is actually pretty cushy in Australia and the western world, and anyone posting that it isn't is wrong.

Basically, apart from the obvious lack of freedom (and sex with women), male prisoners in Australia (and I imagine the USA to be similar, but I could be wrong) get almost anything they want. Electronic equipment, access to gym, the opportunity to garden, grow vegetables, books, telephone calls, visits from friends/family, access to education opportunities, very decent food and plenty of it, coke, chocolate, hygiene products etc etc.

I'm not saying prisoners should or shouldn't have those things, but the facts are, they do.

Um that's the point of supermax you get a single cell your locked in for up to 23 hours a day minimal contact with other prisoners only visitation once a month and it's from behind glass.

That cell becomes there life as it should ****ers even eat shit and sleep in there they get taken out for a walk get a shower then locked back up no tv nothing as it bloody should be.

I said nothing about the third world, and you argued that jail isn't cushy when you responded to those who said it is. Your whole tone in this thread has been one of complete arrogance; and dismissal of anyone else's opinion seems to be your preferred MO.

Do you have a sub 100 IQ or something? I argued that jail isn't cushy. And it's not. Locked in a cell x amount of hours a day. No freedom. Shit food. Violent environment. It's not Club Med.

It's a good phrase, very offensive, and I hope that you won't mind if I use it on someone in the next few days, particularly someone who I hope to make feel inferior to me.

Mentioning that jail is cushy in the western world SAYS NOTHING about the state of prisons in the third world. Look at your debating skills. I said, "I said nothing of the third world". You said "Yes you did...the clear implication (from my post that doesn't mention the third world) is...blah blah" Fact is, I said nothing about the 3rd world. Because you perceived that I implied something does not mean that I "said it". Does it?

Regarding my IQ, you might be surprised at how high it is. I also have a very high EQ as well, which I value as a better trait.

My point was, jail in the western world is remarkably cushy. I know this as I have numerous friends and acquaintances who have spent time in prison. Prisoners have (as stated before), television (including pay TV and on demand movies), access to exercise equipment and outdoor areas, the ability to live in residential communities with other prisoners where they cook their own fresh food and set their own agendas, the opportunity to purchase virtually anything (within reason) for themselves. Obviously there are times when they will be locked down etc, but all in all, if you are a prisoner in Australia, and you don't cause any troubles, you'll be looked after excessively well.

My argument for those who think that 'prison is cushy' and that 'welfare recipients receive too much/it's too cushy for them' is this --

Why don't you quit your jobs and go on the dole if they receive so much money? - Also, while you are at it, why don't you commit some crimes so you can live it up in prison?

That is unfortunate.

If a perpetrator of a crime has taken away any of another person's rights, why should society protect the perpetrator? He or she deserves every nasty thing that comes their way. As far as I'm concerned, the moment they infringe on another person's rights, they give up their own.
