Return Nathan Brown as a key forward?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Brown doesn't have key forward talent and the same can be said about the vast majority of key defenders.

A guy like Essendon's Cale Hooker probably could as can Harry Taylor, Brian Lake and a few others. But it's more those strong marking, better rebounding types who generally go relatively better up forward.

Brown is a pretty good key defender though when healthy and in reality necessary and good depth at the position which is needed both because that key defence group all have had injury issues in the past and Keeffe this year has shown inconsistency so having Brown who can come in if Keeffe isn't performing is something we need.

If we want another forward that desperately then you'd bring in Mitch Clark if he expresses that he wants another shot and he'd be happy at the club.

Reid has the skill set to go forward. Not sure Brown does.

Really hope he can get back to playing good senior footy. His size as a KPD adds something different to Keefe and frost. Hoping he can have a Darren glass like career from here on end.

No you wouldn't bring in Mitch Clarke.

If I remember correctly, he debuted in the forward line, and kicked a goal with his first kick.

Nope - He Debuted as a FB and Played on Pavlich

Reid debuted forward and struggled a bit because he was light as a feather. Went to the seconds and came back as CHB and dominated immediately if memory serves correctly.

Just like you wouldn't bring back Brad Dick?

With Clark it depends entirely on his mental wellness.

If he's feeling mentally good, feeling happy with his body and happy to come to Collingwood then I'd have no problem using a late/preseason draft selection on him.

Clark is no scrub. He can play. He's not a selfish guy and he's not a problem guy. He's a guy who can help a club take the next step - which we need.

Clark would be a genuine no.2 option up forward who can draw the ball as Reid has these past few seasons, win his 1v1 contests and take strong contested grabs and allow Reid to move back to centre half back and cause havoc which can't be said of White who while an athletic freak with some pretty good ground level ability he's not that same marking threat who can clunk them as Clark does.

No one doubts Clark's ability, but he's just not cut out mentally and wouldn't shit on Melbourne like that. If you saw his interview on the footy show, he couldn't deal with the stress of injury and hard training, being an AFL player would have to be one of the most gruelling things you can do and he couldn't hold up to it. He'll probably play local footy but that's it, an AFL return isn't on the cards.

I did tune in this week and Clark didn't rule out a return either and still suggested he has the love for the game and eagerness to play to paraphrase so it's not something I'd be so quick to rule out completely.

The mental wellness is the primary and most critical factor with assessing Clark as I alluded to in my previous post. If he's still not mentally right then you don't take him and if his body isn't right then you also er on the side of caution.

He's a guy you do your due diligence on and at least investigate because the talent and he's a fit for the playing group and someone who can elevate the best team and help them become a more dominant team but whether you take him it's something you assess at seasons end and have in the consider pile and see if he ticks those boxes then.

Even so, doubt he would come to Collingwood if there was a return on the books.

Probably a lower Melbourne club, like Western Bulldogs, who don't get much media attention.

Mentally I think he'd be better off/look to join on a winner.

Why would he want to go to a rebuilding project? He's in the latter half of his 20s. At that stage if you're not a one club player most guys either want to move back to their home state or be a part of a winning team.

Perhaps Fremantle as a West Australian would be a good fit and they could certainly do with a key forward.

Hawthorn would love him and they certainly need a second key forward.

I expect a few clubs will at least check up on him. It's in their best interest.

I think with all of the these threads going around, the only way to keep everyone happy is to drop everyone who's in the 22, bring in all the guys from the VFL, and then roll a dice and play everyone in random positions.

We've currently got Cloke, White, Reid (to return soon) and Witts as tall forwards. Goldsack's playing forward, Q-Stick can come in at a pinch (no idea how he's going in the VFL) and Karnezis is a good prospect for when he recovers from a hammy. Marsh is also a project for a wing/forward role. And thats all off the top of my head (sure to have forgotten someone).

With a thinning backline, you would think its much more likely that Reid would go back, than it is that we would consider moving Browny up forward.

Yeah Brown's injury is a massive spanner in the works for the hope of Reid playing forward permanently. Really hope Keeffe never gets flogged again and has to go forward. I would sub him out when it does happen, because he's useless after he gets towelled a few times. Reid playing some time back this year is a monty, and if Keeffe/Frost get injured/burn out/drop form Reid would have to go back permanently.

Which isn't such a bad thing as I reckon Reid is the best CHB in the comp.

Lynch broke his leg

Just put him on ice for Grand Finals when you need the best key forward in the land shut down completely

He's available to play on Hawkins in the 2011 GF and we are on 16 flags, he's that important!

In place of who? Tarrant was our best key defender by a country mile in 2011.

Send Cloke to defence, then send Brown up forward, just wtf are we drinking these days.
I never said Cloke down back. Brown up forward and Reid down back would make us a better team if Brown was a good target up forward.
