Just got back from the meeting....over 350 people there

What a load of Bull-SH*T...........the Board doesn't answer any question straight out, UNLESS it suits them, unless it is not negative, unless they can please the Brownlow Stand members who clap a team off after giving away a 45+ point lead..........

What i gained from the meeting is there is a bunch of old folks who arrive early, hate negativity.....love Thompson to death, do not question anything to do with the clubs operations and decisions......they give absolutely nothing except telling all the members to 'keep the faith', 'get behind the club'.....'stop with the negativity'.....'if you don't want to be a member then go away'......

I didn't realise that being a member means you cannot question the boards decisions.....don't be negative, just give praise and pretend we had a great year, put up with the BULLSH*T performances, give praise to terrible performances in fact..

That meeting didn't really achieve anything, i think a better meeting would be for all the players to be up there, all the staff, each game will be looked through and questioned...well, i guess the Collingwood game would be a start, especially when the Coll players say that we weren't even trying.
Surely that doesn't surprise you? The club is a business, they have to make money and not paint the club in a negative light. Members come second to money, it's always been that way.

I'm hardly surprised - what a joke. So were many hardhitting questions asked that were just brushed aside?
From what ive heard yes. The board said alot without saying much.

nanana catman is spot on. Don't start complaining because the club doesnt give you answers. Im sure theres are a lot of personal stuff going on at the moment so perhaps Costa doesn't want to turn his club into an episode of Neighbours. And of course they will throw their support behind bomber. You honestly weren't expecting them to sit up there and say bomber is a useless hack were you?

They do whats best for the club even if that means not telling the plebs everything.

Was it ever going to?

Tonight was not a waste of time because of the boards unwillingness to answer questions, tonight was a waste of time because of the idiot questions that were asked !!!!

For all of you who missed the night here is my take on what happened.

The average age of the crowd was 60+

Brian Cook did a high level summary of the review. Wasn't anything new. Pretty much rehashed the letter and other information that has been reported in the paper. They then threw the floor open for Q&A.

Brian Cook prefaced the Q&A by saying we don't want statements or opinion, please get to the point, and ask your question. We don't want anybody to take any longer than a minute, this is an opportunity to ask questions.

Approximately 50 questions then came from the audience. 40 of which were statements and not in fact questions. Brian Cook had to even prompt people to what in fact the question was that they were asking.

There were about 5 decent questions asked for the whole night. The rest were dribble. The reason the board couldn't give answers was because the questions that were being asked were so plain dumb.

Here are some of my favorites from the night:

Why wasn't the review commenced in Round 3?

Why didn't we reappoint Bomber for another 5 years, Malcolm Blight has been quoted as saying he learn't more after five years at Geelong than anytime previously, Bomber has had seven years and is just about to peak?

What did the review find? Who is to blame? What are we going to do to fix the problem? (This was asked 5 minutes after Cook summarized the findings of the review)

Now for the hard hitting stuff:

What is the club doing to increase crowd participation on match day?

Why don't more players thank the supporters at the end of a game? Cam Mooney is the only one who shows affection? (Ok lets give up a 54 point lead to the eventual premier, then lets head over to the outer to thank the fans for there support)

Many dropkicks rehashed quotes from the start of the season, throw away lines, and then tried to hold people accountable. What were most fans saying after Round two? Oh the value of hindsight, everyone is an expert.

But my favorite question/statement came from some nuffy at the end of the night.

He reminded Cook of a comment he said when he joined the club 8 years ago. Thats right 8 years ago! Cook was asked what he thought of Geelong as a team. Cook replied that Geelong was a good home and away club. This nuffy went on to say how true this was. That you only had to look at West Coast as the benchmark. Look at there emergencies such as Nicoski and Graham. Who at Geelong has the dash flair and run of Nicoski, who at Geelong could go with the agility of Graham? Cmon please!! Get off the smack. Bomber got up and shot him down. He spoke of how Geelong is building a finals team, a team that made the prelim in 04 to lose to Brisbane by 9 points, a team that again made the finals in 05 to lose to the reigning premier by 3 points in the last second of the game. Not bad for a home and away team. This year was an aberation and they have put strategies in place to fix the problems.

General theme for the night was that there were no hard hitting questions asked because the nuffy's who spoke made statements and asked dumb, stupid questions.

People wanted blood. They wanted a guarantee that if we lose the first two games next year the place would get turned upside down. The board would apologise before topping themselves, and the playing group would make a passionate apology before being hung and quartered in front of the footballing public.

The board which is a far more intelligent group of people than the nuffy's who graced the floor with their presence tonight, have conducted a thorough review, made some change and are implementing strategies to improve the longevity of our football club. Fans need to seat back and give those plans time to unfold. Not expect the board to look into a crystal ball and guarantee we will win in Round 1. I was as pissed off about our performance as the next person. But 06 is history. The club as revisited their strategies, made some change, and implementing new strategies that they believe will lead us to the holy grail. Lets see what the new plan delivers.

We won't expect to see any more carping posts from you then. If you don't take the opportunity to see first hand what the club is doing and why [and ask questions about issues you want clarified] don't bleat if things don't go the way you think they should. It's generally those who contribute little and work on hearsay that bleat the most.

I dont 'bleat heresay' I have my own opinion on the footy club based on what I see. As already being said on this board the meeting was a waste of time. The club isnt going to be pressured into asnwering 'tough questions' from grandstanding members when they equate to less than 1% of the membership (voting) population.

That's very dissapointing to hear Ezbian, I supose I don't know what I thought would come out of it anyway. It's a real shame that the questions asked were so bad. Did you ask a question Ezbian?
Why? It is hardly a surprise really...

Good (detailed) account there Ezbian..

Increase crowd participation?!?! What do they wanna do. Go out there and play as well??

Gee I don't know Shell, how about thanking the fans for supporting them, for turning up, for paying their wages.

We get nothing from them, a weak clap from selected players, most of them can't wait to get into the rooms. The fans like to feel wanted, but the club does not currently embrace their supporter base. Look at Richmond, Brisbane, West Coast, all thanking the fans after a win and at least looking like they care about them.

You pay to get in and watch them play. Is there much joy of them doing a lap of honour everytime they win a home and away game?

No, because the board is never going to be answerable to 1% of the membership base. Especially when they are the dumbest 1% of the membership base.
Here you go again you nuff nuff. You didn't attend yet you're an expert on who did.

That said, the post by 'ezbian' covered what occurred well. The Q&A was reduced to a series of statements rather than using it as a chance to seek information. And the meeting was largely made up of older people. Something like 15,000 of our members live in the Geelong area, yet only a couple of hundred took the trouble to turn up. Very disappointing.

The club would be much better served by an active and informed membership. Noisy non-participants we can do without.

After attending many Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Victory games and seeing the way they thank the fans after a game and comparing that with the snub the fans get from our players disappoints me to be honest.

The Storm players spend up to half and hour after the game signing autographs while completing a victory lap. Now I don't expect us to do that but I would like them to at least recognise the support we've given them.

Yeah, with this cold I currently have I could sure do with them.

But really, is that the best you can do?

Is bitching, moaning and whinging about how ya not getting enough tender, loving care after games by the Geelong players the best you can do??

Poor liddle, widdle catman...

It's clear I'm arguing with someone who doesn't have the same attachment to the club as myself so I won't bother continuing.

If you're talking about the footballs that the Tiges hand out to the crowd after a win... Geelong have done that at least once, after the win over the Bulldogs.

I don't think the players snub us, you'll find that they are quite friendly and willing to sign autographs.

Why would we do a lap of honour like the other football codes? Do other teams do it? We'd get criticised for doing a lap of honour after every win. Like someone above said, we pay to watch them play, not for them to blow us kisses and thank us for paying their wages.

Agree Liiza.. Imo, it's a non-issue really. The players are accessible in other ways.. after matches, family days. In fact, if you want to compare it to overseas codes of football, im guessing that AFL players would be dam more available to their supporters than those ones.

Im also guessing that codes like Rugby and Soccer have to do those kinds of things after games, cause they are the weaker codes and have to do this. They want to build their supporter base after all. Which is working a treat with me.. i wouldnt be able to name one Melbourne Storm player..

ps. I would love Mooney to blow ME a kiss... in fact...
I better stop there :o

Interesting. And you're basing this on what?

12 years as a member? If that's the case then you would see where I'm coming from.

BTW, is that last sentence a threat?
