Clarkson would gut his mother with a butter knife in order to succeed. He has what it takes. He IS ruthless.

We don't presently have the environment for someone like him to succeed.

The current environment is a product of the current coach and board that accepts mediocrity. The board is accepting failure and the coach can not get the best of the playing group. Something has to change. We have the players, just need a coach to drive for success.

1) The board is not a football board.
2) The coach has capabilities, but is strategically reactive and has relied on politicking to a non football board, in order to extend his career.

We have the players, just need a coach to drive for success.

I agree with this 100%, however the ruling environment need to be in place in order for this to occur.

What the off field-on field separatist types fail to identify is that if there is no on field success, there will be no off field success either. There will be no club, period. Unless of course, the next crisis arrives and it becomes a matter of relocation in order to "save jobs". If that was the ultimatum, how do you think the current board would act? Would they go down swinging, or do you think the growing body of employees with other motives would see matters beyond the scope of this football club?

We've certainly and understandably and successfully turned our attention at board level to offield stability.

That has been achieved, we need to reorient to onfield.

The board outsourced footy to Brad Lock stock and barrel.

Yeah so now this needs to change.

There's new voices needed.

Of which I'd like one to be someone who has a decent amount of seniority who clearly and vocally detests losing.

Corey McKernan would be an excellent start.

If as WA suggests, Clarko conducts the review (assuming he's unaffiliated with any clubs at year's end), the qualities you mention would assist him rather than hold him back in my eyes.

But for mine I'm not so sold on it being necessary to get in a football person, but either a supremely successful business consultant (tigers got someone from Ernst and young I think) or we go cross code to someone who has led one of the country's more dominant sporting franchises. Maybe Troy Georgiu from the Perth wildcats, or someone similar.

I know what you mean, but for me football is the biggest issue we have, and specifically within that, development of players and gameplan/strategy. Which means you need a football specialist.

Just someone that makes it uncomfortable when we lose.

None of this hugs after big losses bulls-hit. We should view them as a failing of the club as a whole.

We need someone who challenges things like the psychology of being 0-3 and only liking to win.

We are in this sport for silverware. Not for the financial security of nice young men. That can merely be a byproduct.

The review is a step, I am interested to see the action that comes about because of it.

Enough half measures. Full on tunnel vision towards number 5.

We would end up with an epidemic of "depression".

Blame it on a generation who grew up attaining ZERO psychological immunity.

Revert to the available million plus.............."in this day & age"...........type justifications that facilitate mediocrity.

Seems to me that what the club needs to find is somebody who:

a) Has impeccable and up-to-date knowledge about the football industry
b) Understands the importance of 'soft skills' in conducting a thorough, department-wide review
c) Possesses experience in change management and consultancy
d) Is guaranteed to place the the blame squarely at the feet of Brads Scotts

The only question is where to find such a person. Is there a section on gumtree for this kind of thing? If not, there should be.
Call me skeptical but I believe the time the club comes around to appoint someone the majority of the report will be filled out.
What they’ll be looking for is someone who will look good in front of the cameras, a 200k sign off, signature.

Let’s make it clear, if the board needs outside help to figure out whats going on. What are they doing there in the first place.

A very simple piece of logic that hits the bullseye dead centre.

Completely agree. There are no excuses now we've got off field stability.

Depends on what the board think they are there to do.

They've completely outsourced footy to Brad.

The buck for footy starts and ends with Brad.

I don't really buy that.

Blokes that are the same sorta age as our list win the flag every year.

Change is needed but I'm not really for throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

There is huge opportunity staring us collectively in the face right now.

What we do in this period of time can define who and how we are for the medium term.

Need to get this right.

Strange logic from the board then, the members can’t get rid of brad or any employee but we can sure as s**t kick the board members out if they don’t care about football.

Exactly.

That's what needs to happen.

You keep beating on about the board not being a Football board. What exactly is a football board? Would you call Hawthorns board a "Football Board"?

The idea of a Board of Directors is it have a range of skills that complement the running of the Club. Sure, our main aim is to win Premierships, but we can't win premierships if we're broke.

Up until January this year we had Archer and Buckley on the board, both very much Football people. We're currently in the process of replacing Archer.

As for Ruthlessness, all the board members are very successful people in their chosen fields. They don't get there without being able to make the hard decision.

I like your logic but we had to be dead last for them to do something...
sounds like they’re happy to be coasting to me..

We need to apply the same smarts and commitment that we did to securing ourselves financially to securing our next premiership.

Are the same people who delivered one capable of delivering the other?

Common sense would dictate not.
