I'm at the stage now where I'm just going to forget how everyone played on the weekend in terms of their overall form. There's such a long list of those with horrible games, and even those who played well didn't really play well by normal standards. Clearly something was up - whether that be a bad attitude taken into the game, something odd about how Metricon was playing, Suns tactics, or something else, I just think it's a little too odd that seemingly everyone had a stinker, so I'm not really going to critique them much on it. Polec played a shocker, but he's a second year player and to write him off would be the most premature move of the century. I'll wait it out a little longer for him and others.
After watching the replay I have been thinking of this game as more of an aberrration, especially given our recent form. Haven't seen the team play that badly all year, it was as if nothing would go right. Just hope they can work out what the problem was and overcome it.

Itcould have been the mindset of both teams too.
Lions not wanting to be the first team to lose at Metricon and Suns hoping that their first win at their ground was against the Lions.
They were both so nervous about the outcome they just all played like crap.
Except Ablett of course:rolleyes:

It's odd that so many teams play way off form at Metricon though. I've got no clue why it is, but there have been quite a few examples so far this year where teams in great or good form have gone up there and only just scraped through. No one seems to play Metricon well, so that makes it easier to dismiss form from the match.

We played well and lost against the saints then played badly and won the next week against the Suns. I would chalk that up as a lesson learned...

We should play badly more often?

The game had a similar feel to it as the games we played at the Gabba earlier in the year when the ground had been heavily watered prior to the game. That is, the ball wasn't easy to handle, but it (the ball) wasn't heavy like it would be in a rainy game. There wasn't much in the way of crisp ball movement from either side, and as the game wore on there seemed to be more and more 'territory footy' with players just hacking it forward. I also believe Gold Coast played better than what they have been given credit for.

I don't know what it was but players from both teams seemed to badly misjudge distances and angles. The ball routinely went out of the full or fell way short of a target. Perhaps a combination of poor skills and the surface/sight lines. Odd enough that everyone around me kept commenting that no one seemed to be able to just kick or catch cleanly.

After a few days recovery, I think we all learned something from this game.

But after the Rich in a skirt, beard, devil horns, yadda yadda last week - I think we all learned that juvenile ribbing on the internet works better after the game. ;)

Loved it! Was waiting for another explosion when the Zorko trade was mentioned :)
One of the best

My spin on our game would also need to include meteorological aspects – there was a pretty strong breeze [25/35-KPH] blowing from the south? pretty much all afternoon and into the evening towards the river/scoreboard end. Had walked in at the southern end and standing briefly stood behind the southern goals and noticed there was a fair wind tunnelling under the stand through the walkways towards the scorebard end – also sat behind the interchange area during the first half of the ressies, behind the northern/scoreboard goals during the 1st half of the main game then up in the eastern stand between the scoreboard 50 and the wing for the second half.

Yep a strong breeze was noticeable in all areas swirling to the northern end. BUT… if you totalled up the scoring shots at both ends and for both games you get 47 to the scoreboard end and 48 ‘against the wind’ towards the southern end.

As for the other games… ???

PS - GG you've done it again, CLASSIC!!! I believe I do recall having 'whooper' laugh at the game with nearby comments re the scoreboard message... but where is the Angry Whooper offer after each loss - too costly?

Has as always been believed around here... GingerGreatness is da man! :thumbsu::cool:

I'm with TheBrownDog here, the quarter pounder line had me chuckling quite loudly at my desk drawing weird looks from everywhere.
