People seem to be forgetting Black did gather the ball 29 times and was one of better players..

Cut them some slack Grim, both look sore, Black especially!
Black carrying minor soreness but still performing at a high level. Brown.... whats wrong with him... Yes I know he is a major target by opposing sides weekly to curtail his influence, but he doesnt look like having the ability to grab the game by the scruff of the neck like he use to. I realize he is getting older and his body has been thru a lot, but gee... I ve never seen him drop marks like he did last night and get caught with the pill so much(looking slow.) Dont get me wrong, he is a champion player, and I hope he can get his form right.

Must say ,Zorkos performance was good again.I read a previous post here yesterday saying he was down on his performance. In a scrappy game full of mistakes, where no one stood out except for Ablett, Zorko got 20 touches, with 12 being contested possessions (third only to Black and Hudson) and 6 defensive tackles ( only Redden had the same.) Was one of our better players.

Not sure why Ace is copping it. Worked hard all night. Certainly wasn't our worst key forward.

Having now watched the replay, I'm fairly and squarely on your side with this.

Kicked a good angled goal, presented well all night and gave a really intelligent handball out in front of Bewick for what turned out to be the sealing goal.

I am going to be majorly pissed if he is dropped for the WCE game.

I didn't think he did too much wrong watching from the stands, but I think a large part of the anger about his game comes from the fact that he's been on our list for a fair while now, and just continues to not fulfil hopes and expectations. We've all been waiting for him to have that game that really starts his career for a long time now, but it just fails to happen. It hurts even more when marking is what everyone thought was his strongest suit, yet he drops at least 5 balls that you'd normally consider pretty standard for him.

What needs to be remembered though is that no one really dominated in that match. Whether that's down to the conditions or the style of the game I'm not sure, but there were only thirteen goals kicked all night, with the highest goal scorer being Jack Redden on 2! Just like I'm happy to see this game as an aberration for Brown and Merrett up forward, I'll do the same for Cornelius. Everyone was playing in the same conditions.

In saying that, I do think he'll be dropped this week. But I think he'll be given one last chance in the seniors this year to prove that he deserves to stay on the list or he's gone. That's if Lisle doesn't take his spot and dominate to the extent that he doesn't get another run. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Ace save his career in the final game of the season with 5 goals, though.

We've all got high hopes for what he can do, and I think we're all just praying that it happens before it's too late...

Dunno Luthor, we're at the stage of the year where clubs not in finals contention start to sort out lists on what they retain or move on..The next couple of rounds players will come into sides to get a chance to prove themselves to their present club or see if they can spark an interest from another club.. 'The unofficial AFL players audition time'.

We've got just enough AFL-capable midfielders, when everyone is available. As soon as we lose one, we look exposed for depth. Right now, we can rely on Black, Raines, Rich, Redden and Rockliff in the midfield. But our depth is shithouse. As soon as we need to rely on the 2nd tier to step up, we're in trouble.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but until we have the depth to play genuine AFL standard midfielders on the flanks and off the interchange bench, we will struggle. I mean, Hawthorn play Lewis and Burgoyne in different roles - those guys would start in the middle for us. Collingwood can do the same with Sidebottom, Thomas, etc. Our depth simply isn't there. There are definitely some options in development but the 2012/13 summer is going to be vital for us - we need to challenge the likes of Polec, Green, Harwood etc to be fit and strong enough to step into a full time midfield role if need be.

We are not out of finals contention unless (maybe until) we lose to West coast next week. Until there is no mathematical chance of us making finals I want to see the team play like they are trying to make finals. If West Coast is our last chance then I expect the side to play as if they were in a grand final.

I was at both the St Kilda game and the Suns game and each of Merret, Brown and Ace all dropped marks I thought they had taken and should of taken. It was frustrating for me to watch. What is going on?

Agree 100% POBT. Beams, Zorko and Green up front, Harwood, Doc and Golby (and maybe Lester) down back, all of which can come in to the middle rotationally or to fill injury gaps would be brilliant, but they are not up to the same standard that our As (or Rs, as it were) are at the moment. Time is what they need.

Time and work ethic.

To back this up here is an article from our dodgy friends at SportsNewsFirst. The quotes involved by Voss are the exact words used by Voss during his post match TV interview that others, including Kerry OT , were looking for.

“Obviously we’ll be looking at our list over the next five or six weeks,” Voss revealed.
“But the guys have communicated back to me that they want to finish really strong in the season and they’ve got a lot of encouragement out of the year the fact that we have grown as a group.
“They’re pretty determined to finish the season strong.
“So that’s what we’ll do.
“But at the same time there’s some guys that have been playing pretty well in the reserves that I think it is time we give a game to.”

So we have 6 games left, I'm guessing they'll want three games to assess players, and at the same time they will still want to balance experienced and green players. So I think the likes of Yeo, Criap, Acorn, Bewick, Polec, Lester and Banfield will be rotated out in either twos or threes. I'm guessing this week will be Acorn, Bewick, Crisp, for Isle Beams and Docherty.

Then Yeo, and Lester for Bartlett, and Weardon.

Then I think they will rotate this around to give each guy a three game run whislt maintaining big bodies and not making to many changes each week.

Unfortunately I don't see Hawk getting another game. Which is a bit rough from my perspective.

I thought I would share this ripper of a comment from the 5 Talking Points article for our game on the AFL site:

5. The devil's in the detailThe prophetic marketers from Gold Coast defaced the QClash promo poster to depict Daniel Rich as a horned devil. He promptly sinned, shoving Saint Clint Jones into the fence and missing the game his graffitied face was meant to promote. Maybe next year, Gold Coast should mock up a graphic of the Suns not missing easy set shots and hope that comes true too.

I bit mean, but also very funny.

Does anyone have a specific time in the post-match interview where Vossy says that he'll be rewarding players in the reserves? Watched it a few times, still can't find it :(

I believe it was when the Fox Footy team crossed down to him in the rooms after a game, and not actually in the post match press conference.
