After every goal Caiphus and I lead a chant that was very popular in GA (How bout <insert goal scorers name here>? He's allright..). It's been less so this year in the snooty members area we sit in (Section 29), but is starting to gain traction. The birds that sit next to us had committed to joining in the chant if we kicked the goal to put us in the lead last night.

But there is probably a dozen or so others who join in when the they get a bit excited and forget to golf clap...

Keep doing it. I'm only a few rows away and it is catching on.

I think he was referring to the NEAFL being better than what peeps were suggesting. ;)
The NEAFL is a rapidly growing comp in standard and there were 6 or 7 kids drafted by afl clubs last year and i have no doubt this will occur in this seasons draft . In addition, there are a number of mature age players that could play at the elite level if given the chance, but there seems to be a,, not look in your own backyard,, attitude in Qld.
In regards to the Lions, well they have improved but have a long way to go to say make the top 8 in 2013. A club can only go on the playing list they have, but...(. as great a player and clubman Vossy was and is), you guys need a coach that has been there and done it before. eg Roos or Malthouse for eg. You got Lethal Leigh, who took the Pies to a premiership after 32 years and then took u guys to 3 in a row. PROOF IN THE PUDDING.

We sit nearby also. Love your effort - always join in when there!

The most worrying thing is that one or two games may just be an aberration, but three poor performances is now form, and we've got to deal with that. Chopping and changing the side clearly isn't the answer though. Beams and Docherty should come in, and that's pretty much it for now. Vossy's comment about 'playing the personnel required' to put in the effort needed, regardless of who they were makes me think that SOKS, Hawk, Cheynee and Amon might get a few games now. I might be reading too much into that though.

I really hope Lisle keeps his spot. He had quite a few moments where he was leading well and in a good position, but the ball was kicked to Brown instead (the kick it to Browny mentality seemed to be back a little). Looks good though.

As I mentioned on page one, I'm really on the Yeo bandwagon. Have been since the Saints match. I'd love to change my handle to 'PattyKandEYeoareguns', but that would be impractical, too long, and put me in even more of a bind if one or both left. Still, he's going great.

I also think Crisp played one of his best games. Was very good in patches.

We can't go down to Melbourne and let Carlton thrash us. It really is that simple - it can't happen. If it does, I'm certain that the Voss coaching speculation will slowly start to creep back. We need to at least challenge them, which we really should be capable of. Hopefully we can do it. Seems to be a bit of a deflated spirit at the club now though, and has been for a few weeks.

There's a lot hinging on the last two games, I reckon, as far as speculation goes.

Obviously every game is important as far as the team goes, but in terms of the perception of supporters, football public and media, losing these two games (or perhaps even one of them) would have people talking of the chances of "Voss being the first coach to be cut in 2013", I reckon.

The next two weeks against Carlton and Adelaide could be tough encounters and I doubt that we're a decent chance to win either, but hopefully we do enough to regain the sort of form that can see us push for wins against Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs.

With Primus gone, Voss is next in line to cop the heat at this point in time, if we finish the season poorly. Going by some of the footage of Voss in the coaches box last night, Voss looked as though he was completely fed-up with what was going on out on the field. If we put in an appalling final four weeks, I'd even start to wonder if he'd just pull the pin himself, simply out of frustration.

We started the year as a bottom 4 side (on form). Then in the middle of the year we progressed to a mid-ladder side (on form). And now we are probably back to where we started (on form). The last two rounds have been difficult to watch. It has been very disappointing.

On last night, we saw the emergence of Harwood, Yeo and Wrigley. All three were incredibly composed when the opposition kept entering the defensive 50.

Both Wrigley and Harwood had a really bad turnover each that led to simple Richmond goals. Wrigley's was probably a case of not playing the %s while Harwood's was a horrible shank at a really bad time in the game.

Day Games

Round 1 vs Melbourne = win (119 - 78)
Round 3 vs Fremantle = loss (64 - 35)
Round 6 vs Essendon = loss (129 - 62)
Round 8 vs GWS = win (132 - 40)
Round 9 vs North = loss (112 - 96)
Round 10 vs West Coast = win (102 - 100)
Round 12 vs Hawthorn = loss (135 - 70)
Round 13 vs Bulldogs = win (114 - 56)
Round 14 vs Melbourne = win (122 - 61)
Round 15 vs Sydney = loss (110 - 63)
Round 18 vs West Coast = loss (175 - 77)

Wins = 5, Losses = 6, Average points scored = 90.18, Average points conceded = 96.36

Night Games

Round 2 vs Carlton = loss (154 - 63)
Round 4 vs Gold Coast = win (111 - 46)
Round 5 vs Geelong = loss (79 - 41)
Round 7 vs Collingwood = loss (116 - 58)
Round 16 vs St Kilda = loss (105 - 92)
Round 17 vs Gold Coast = win (59 - 48)
Round 19 vs Richmond = loss (132 - 84)

Wins = 2, Losses = 5, Average points scored = 72.57, Average points conceded = 97.14

The draw is a contributing factor, but I've felt we've tended to play better in daylight than at night time this year.

We also seem to be suffering from the breakout then fade factor. Beams, Cornelius, Crisp, Harwood, Lester, Polec and Yeo (to different degrees) all started well and then declined. Is this the norm for younger players? Are they just getting tired? Are opposition coaches working them out? Is this something that is particular to the Brisbane Lions? I recall this is something that has happened in the past too with players like Dalziell and Collier, or even current players like Banfield and Polkinghorne.

The primary role of a coach IMO is player development (the influence of a coach within a game is fairly limited and greatly over rated, but I digress...) So if there is a criticism of Voss as a coach, this trend is what I would be looking at and asking why are they not getting better.

Our crowds always look worse on TV as the opposition fans will be at ground level in the Southern stand in the pockets or behind the goals. There's many more Lions supporters on the top levels.
Camera's do seem to focus those particular shots of the crowd. I have to concur that it does not show the Gabba crowd at its most flattering.

It always sounds worse as our crowds are full of cardigan knitting bitties who turn around and give you the death stare if you call an opposition player a squib at the top of your lungs.
Sometimes you wonder why some people go to football. Some even death stare you if you yell at the umpires to get glasses

Their beep tests and skin folds have never been better.

I wonder how well is this being translated into on-field workrate at the moment. There seems to be a shortage of easy targets for players to go to.

We think alike, I made a whole thread on that! :p

I think it is great the work the club are doing to promote the game at the the Gabba.
All the player posters at the entrance and the activities etc.looks fantastic.
At 3/4 time they had a promotion near the interchange bench with Leuy and the mascot. then photos and autographs with him.
Leuy is a lovely young man.
I like what they are trying to do.:thumbsu:

We are not going to get more people to the games however.if they perform like they did on Sat night.
That was a tough night to sit through and unfortunately doesnt give supporters too much to look forward to.
Especially when it was against Tigers who had nearly as many fans there as we did.
No success in 30 years and still sticking by their club.
We have very few fans like them, guess its because despite the Fitzroy link, most people up here who follow AFL, still support their old teams..
I heard also that lots of our supporters,if you can call them that, started following the Suns last year.

Next year will be a defining year for our Club. Our young players have to put their own stamp on the Lions. They have to make it their team.
Not Browns and Blacks, their time is almost over.
It has to be the new breed to lead the club forward and become household names that people want to go and watch and appaud.

Must admit to being more pessimistic about our future than I have been for a while.

I hope I am proven wrong.

...while Harwood's was a horrible shank at a really bad time in the game...

What was far more disappointing was the amount of goals we conceded in a short period of time after that.
