RIP Dusty Hill, was still playing gigs as late as last week before dropping out of the tour due to a hip problem.

Legend, legends.

Le grange though even if it's a bit of a John Lee Hooker rip is fantastic.

What a band, vale Dusty.

it’s actually not so much a rip off but paying homage to JLH
True & that's why I said rip, not rip off, subtle diff, in this case it means exactly what you said, homage.

Just acknowledging JLH

The reverend, with an improv session. No one does pinch harmonics like he does. The female guitarist in these clips is from Adelaide, she was the guitarist that toured with Michael Jackson.

Little known fact before ZZ top he used to tour in Jimi Hendrix band.

You sweet talkin bastard, you know how to get a gentleman (or me) to throw his pants away!

Imagine being Tracy Chapman here, scary stuff! 😲

She starts off very vulnerable but grows into the performance the longer it goes on.

The car would be going none too fast or far here, particularly once our police got to it with a speed detector and number plate recognition technology. She wouldn't be driving over any borders either as in the song. The money she made from singing this would be spent in fines. Big Ears doesn't like fast cars.

Hey Muthafarkus.....
Been a while since I have visited this thread.

I have a present.

I am going to post a link which may eat up a lot more time than you have to spare, but do not lose it, bookmark it immediately.

This site was made and curated by an Aussie guy named Grant Dawe.

It contains almost every song to ever enter the Australian top 100 from 1950 to today.

That is not all, his personal faves, every ARIA award winner, it goes on and on.

I am not sure how is the best way to pay homage to this guy.
So here it is.

Make an argument why 1978 was not the greatest year for popular muisc to ever occur on this planet.

Was reading this article in a US on line site and it was rather interesting.

The 200 most popular new tracks now regularly account for less than 5 percent of total streams. That rate was twice as high just three years ago. The mix of songs actually purchased by consumers is even more tilted toward older music. The current list of most-downloaded tracks on iTunes is filled with the names of bands from the previous century, such as Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Police.

I encountered this phenomenon myself recently at a retail store, where the youngster at the cash register was singing along with *Sting on “Message in a Bottle” (a hit from 1979) as it blasted on the radio. A few days earlier, I had a similar experience at a local diner, where the entire staff was under 30 but every song was more than 40 years old. I asked my server: “Why are you playing this old music?” She looked at me in surprise before answering: “Oh, I like these songs.”

Never before in history have new tracks attained hit status while generating so little cultural impact. In fact, the audience seems to be embracing the hits of decades past instead. Success was always short-lived in the music business, but now even new songs that become bona fide hits can pass unnoticed by much of the population.

*I thought Jim Croce first sang it and made it popular.

I think streaming services is the cause of this. Kids stream music rather than listen to the radio. We grew up being pounded by songs played over and over and a lot of music grew on us even if we didnt like them initially. We had tv programs like Countdown, Rage and That SBS Show whos name i forget with Basia whatsername, not to mention that you could go see a band at your local pub every weekend.
I personally am over retro music. I have heard some songs over and over for 45 years and it just gets old. Finding new music is hard now, especially for the youngsters so i guess they go listen to the older music which is fresh to them.

It’s a while since I’ve inflicted some of my music on this thread, and yes it’s a cliche that a baby boomer from Melbourne would love these two. But I do and this is such a good song, with a good title too - ‘Teeth’😍

Ok, if you have 15 minutes spare... so good, so good his guitar work towards last 5 minutes

I know he is rated, but, an all time great

Timeless and sexy imp.

Spent a bit time after his death watching his live performances, and was duly blown away.
