Perfectly encapsulated the reason why I can't watch it, watching Nicholls willfully violate us again is way too masochistic. I'm still recovering from the 50 and goal he gifted Franklin, that sort of thing should never, ever be seen in a GF again.

It sucks because usually grand finals get umpired like it's the last 5 minutes of a 1 point game - the umps put away the whistle on incidental stuff to allow for the extra intensity.

Then that knob comes along in his first ever GF and umpires it like it's a R1 game in front of 500 people in Cairns, pulling all sorts of tiggy touchwood shit out of his behind.

Even if Fremantle had won I would be appalled that that complete clown in Nicholls had umpired a grand final.

The way the AFL presented themselves (Demetriou in particular) during our finals series made someone as generally logical and realistic as me strongly consider turning conspiracy theorist...

WTF is with the pop up ad esti? You getting a kick back or something?

They'll be cancelling the cheque once they read what I've been saying about them.

It's some dodgy shit Chief is up to, I dunno because I have ad-block and they don't show up for me. Don't know how you cavemen can handle the net without ad-block.

The word umpires was highlighted in blue and if you rolled over it you got a pop up video ad. The link seems to have disappeared now. I hope this isn't a sign of the brave new world.

Are you on Chrome? Stay ahead of the brave new world and get yourself ad-block. It's the best internet invention since midget pr0n.
You clearly haven't heard of the USB vagina.

I watched the GF again a couple of weeks ago too.

I was pretty happy with our intensity for most of the match (skills were another story obviously) but that limp effort from Duffield on the goal line allowing Gunston to swivel and kick a goal was infuriating.

First he casually jogged back like he expected the ball to go over the goal line, then he half-heartedly stuck out one hand in a token attempt to spoil. Left me fuming, both live (right! in! front! of! me!) and after watching the replay. Completely unacceptable in the biggest game of your career where you should be attacking every contest like your life depends on it.

God I wish it had been Spurr in that contest, Gunston would still be trying to dislodge the goal post from his spine.
We were charging and only 3 pts behind at that stage.. Was a limp effort. Had that been Ballas or Spurr they would've threw their body at that and smash Gunston into the post or something. Was a soft effort, remember him slowly running back and then realized he overestimated where his man was...

I have not watched the replay but at the game I recall Duffield had next to nil chance of getting to the smother without arriving late and conceding a possible free kick.
I did not think he had a chance to effect a smother.

What did piss me off was the soft free against Dawson on Roughead not long after.

That's because he was having a picnic with the fairies while Gunston was busting his arse to get back to the ball.

He had every chance of getting there and legally contesting the ball. That is one part of the game that stands out it my mind as a possible turning point. It was lazy, pure and simple.

But that is a different issue.
Some are saying he made no effort to smother while I am saying he had no chance to do it.
Immediately prior to that I do not recall what he was doing; he was definitely a fair distance away from him.

I'd like to retract that statement. Just had a look on Youtube and I must have been thinking of another passage of play. Keep in mind , I had been drinking ALOT that day.

He was still off with the fairies when Gunston kicked that goal though.

Just re watched the last quarter of the game against Collingwood at Subi as my IQ was at a couple of minutes to go in the 3rd. Not much else to say that hasn't been said but one piece of play that never gets mentioned that was crucial in my eyes was Ibbo's double tackle on Swan then Thomas (I think) in the back pocket. Hannath had just put is in front against the run of play and that saved a certain goal IMO that would have given Collingwood back the momentum.

Just re-watched our home game against Richmond which we won thanks to a man they call Hayden Ballantyne.

"Respect!"

We had Griff and Hannath in the ruck that day and Jacky Hannath only took one mark for the game, and that mark came with a minute left on the clock with Richmond steaming towards goal to take the lead back and win the game.

We lost Kepler early in the game with a season ending ACL injury and that left Ballas, Chopper Mayne and Son-Son to hold up our forward line.

One thing I noticed in this game was that Zac Dawson, Michael Johnson and Luke McPharlin were all pushing up to the centre of the ground in order to lock the ball in our forward half. The problem then was when we turned the ball over, Richmond's midfielders would sprint past them into their now unguarded forward line.

We also missed a lot of easy shots on goal with Son-Son and Griff both missing sitters.

This was the game which Richmond believed that they were robbed of when the goal umpire prevented the ball from hitting the post. Yet the feral Richmond supporters, whom spent all game abusing Zac Dawson from behind the goals, thought that when Vickery hit the goal umpire who was standing in front of the post, then that constitutes a goal.

Zac then gave those supporters the royal salute after the final siren.

To me Michael Johnson and Hayden Ballantyne were the match winners that day, with Nat Fyfe my 3rd best on ground. Griff was superb in the ruck against Maric, but his disposal let him down.

We got out of jail with this game.

He was much closer then the vision suggest (Happened right in front of me! ;)).. Was ball watching and Gunston sneaked behind the back, got the bounce and tapped it in.. Had duff maybe gone one on one and forced a contest would've at best caused a rushed behind or panicked gunston a little.. I bowed my head and groaned when that happened. Out of all the goals we had to concede and hard work to get close.. Just so easy.

This is when we needed thunder thighs Pearce he would have played on gunston and shut him down ah well !!! and Ibbo would have prevented all the overhead marks with the interceptions.

But thats the past lets just move on.

Well last night myself, a tube of Pringles and some French onion dip sat down on the couch and watched our round 6 game against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon again.

Not one of our better games due to the long road trip and humid slippery conditions, but a 45 point win against a side that beat Collingwood up there is still pretty good.

The highlights were few and far between, but certainly the one the still has everyone talking was the battle between Gary Ablett and Ryan Crowley.

I also thought that Jon Griffen's game was outstanding with 3 goals, as was Garrick Ibbotson in a Brian Lake type role. Son-Son kicked 4 goals and was also very good.

No Nat Fyfe this game and Hayden Crozier came in for him. No Steven Hill either and Alex Silvagni will be remembered for that front on hit to Gary Ablett.

Jarred Harbrow was superb for the Suns with 32 touches, but didn't hurt us on the scoreboard where it counted.

Seppo, was that you that copped the falcon behind the goals?

I wish it was, sat down with the coach on the couch but refused to share my Pringles and dip with him.

And the legend of "Dipper" Reems has begun.

Be interesting to see how GCS go this year. I know we are supposed to hate the new teams, but I still think it is exciting to see all that talent jam-packed into the one side.
