Towards the end of his run his schtick was really starting to get on my ****...but with the quality of commentators we have now, god I miss old Hunt face.
Pretty sure 3AW actually told him off at some point, for going too far down the silly/vaudeville route and not enough on actually commentating the game properly.

He was funny but I feel he did end up going over-the-top with it.

Miss Rex on 3AW. Made listening to neutral games fun.
An old mate of mine ("OMM"), Geelong supporter with an odd sense of humour, once rang Rex on 3AW one Saturday morning, I was listening, and accused him of caring little about footy but wanting top promote his, Hunt's, fishing shop business. Rex went off his trolley and accused OMM being 'scum of the earth' then out came the magic words I've never forgotten "we knew how to deal with blokes like you when I was in the Police Force..."

Gary Sr was known as the Pontiff

I do miss his commentary for sure, was quite a lot of fun, especially if your side was winning more than not. I also liked 'Press Red for Ed' too. Not sure we're going to be reminiscing about Kelly Underwood's Orange Team and other faux pas though!

Read the other day that Rex Hunt moved from Richmond to Geelong midway through the 1974 season. Played games 1-7 for Richmond, then 8-22 for Geelong. In fact, he played against Geelong in round 6, then he played against Richmond in round 17.

I had no idea players ever moved mid-season. Was this ever a thing? Or was Hunt the only one?

Happened quite frequently - Clearances closed on June 30, there was no salary cap, no draft it was open slather
