Richmond

Richmond has asked the league to schedule the majority of its matches on Friday nights and Saturdays in 2004. Tigers director of football Greg Miller indicated that Sunday was the club’s ‘least preferred day’ to play football. Of the club’s 11 home matches in 2003, seven were at the MCG, with four at Telstra Dome.

Part of Richmond’s agreement with Telstra Dome is that those four matches must include games against Victorian teams. “We’re not to play just four interstate teams at Telstra Dome. They’ve got to be some reasonably good games. That’s part of the agreement,” Miller said. Miller also confirmed that the club is happy to play Carlton in a twilight game on Good Friday next year. If that should fall-through, the Tigers are seeking to continue with the Easter Monday match with St. Kilda.

Another tradition Richmond is seeking to preserve with is the season-opener with Collingwood. The club is also in discussions Essendon regarding a match on the Mother’s Day weekend to be played on Saturday afternoon. “We think we can do something special on Mother’s Day with Essendon but we prefer to do it on the Saturday when our mothers can come along and relax and then have their family day on the Sunday,” Miller said.

Miller acknowledges the difficulty of playing matches on Mother’s Day, recalling his time at the Kangaroos when only 12,400 fans turned up to see them play the Dockers.
Richmond’s five interstate trips in 2003 included two visits to both Perth and Adelaide. Miller thinks four games outside Victoria would be ideal in 2004, noting that Richmond has played Fremantle at Subiaco Oval every year since 1999.

Ideal draw

Probably not that big a deal as a club is unlikley to get too much. Especially a loser club.

Ideally we'd have 11 home games at the MCG. Then who cares where the others are. But as the club has sold four to that other ground it would be good to play non-Vic teams at the MCG. They play so many at that other ground you really end up with no advantage.

Also, asking for four games outside Vic looks wimpish. What, is Richmond scared of travelling? (Probably). If you want to be a finalist these days chances are you'll be playing outside Vic. Richmond should ask for 6 road games, plus Canberra, York Park or wherever else someone wants to play their home games - as long as the 11 home games are played where the club wants.

No No No - keep interstate game sto a mininmum - 4 is ok. Victorian based supporters (would have to be at least 90%) of the following want to be able to see th team play live.

I also disagree with playing north, bulldogs or saints as home games at Telstra. Absolutely no advantage at all. Limited capacity and access would keep casual viewers away if it were a big game - denying us of potential home game revenue.

I agree you don't want those games at Telstra, but no choice for the next couple of years. Ideally they would all be at the MCG. Games against Freo / PA could be at Punt Rd if they really want to maximise profit.

As to 90% of supporters wanting to see them live - from what I hear last week there would have been 15000 richmond supporters, if that. I believe it was an away game. Suggests very few % of supporters want to see them live.

If anything i would rather have ....Brisbane ,Sydney , 1 Adelaide & 1 Perth ......
As much as i loved going to W.A twice this season , it's a bloody long way to go to see the team get flogged....
