What's the news around the upcoming 2017 season?

Waikeri looking to go b2b with not really losing anyone & gaining some serious talent.

BMFC have lost whillas medal winner Richard OGrady which is a huge blow & also lost another 3-4 young quality A grade players. But have gained TTG gun forward/mid Matt Min , Jack Selfe will return, Matt Benson making the cross from Loxton & also sounds like a few more on the way.

Berri have lost big time with Nick Hankin, Mumford, Obst, Marner, Raedar plus a few extra's. Plenty of in's but pretty questionable on the quality in the bunch....... Expect Berri to drop off.

Loxton looking to bring in some quality with Raph Liddle & Ben Yeomans returning plus Mitch Guidolin form the Hills. Matt Lidgerwood also making the move from loxton. Still a long way to go for them to be finals material but laying the foundations to bounce back off the bottom.

North have lost a few quality kids who have headed to the Mallee. Also lost Lidgerwood to cross town rivals Loxton. Have signed some serious quality in Ben Greiger & rumours Chris Bonney has been training.

Renmark have signed some solid quality in Brad Inglis, Jacob Neary & Fraser Sampson. Also a few other quality in's. Expect Renmark to improve with not really losing anyone except Charlie Wiese

Waikeri will be the team to beat. BMFC, Renmark & north to fight out for that top 2 spot ;)

Brad Inglis will no longer play for Renmark as he makes the move to Melbourne for work commitments......

Renmark still on the prowl to find some one. Word is they were sniffing around SAAFL div 5 medal winner & lockleys ruckman Hayden Martinello. But I don't see Hayden leaving as he is fairly cemented into the lockleys culture & loves the club.

Clearance entered: Jacob Fisher to BMFC

Clearance has been denied but I would picture it will get sorted before the season start.

Big Fish has had nearly every club in Adelaide form Div 1 to Div 3 chasing him & is hot property after spending the last 2 seasons between Broadview & North Adelaide. The big key forward will be a huge IN for the Roo's if it gets done!!!

3 Rounds in & the league is already starting to smooth out which clubs will be up there come September & which teams won't be close.

As expected, Waikerie is the standout front runner. In the first 3 games they have had comfortable wins against BMFC (51points), Berri (238points) & Loxton (91points). Dan Nobes has kicked 28 in the first 3 games & Matt Spencley has been on fire through the midfield while also kicking 16 himself after 3 rounds. With their current midfield of Matt & Jake Spencley, Tim Bevan & Clark McCatty feeding 200cm FF Dan Nobes, they will be tuff to beat. The next 2 weeks will be their biggest Challenge with North & Renmark.

Loxton North has been pretty close to the mark with Waikerie, notching up some pretty solid wins against Renmark, BMFC & Berri. Usual suspects Ryan Proud, Nathan Brown, Josh Nelson, Matthew Hampel & Scott Meneghetti causing serious headaches for opposition. Also the inclusion of spearhead Ben Grieger up forward has the Panthers firing up forward. The challenge will come if injuries start to rack up as Norths depth is a bit unknown after losing a few solid depth players in the off season. Anton Cook (one of the best defenders of the decade in the RFL) looks to be missing a couple games, which could be an issue this week up against Waikerie with 200cm Dan Nobes on FIRE at FF. North still look to be the team to give Waikerie a real challenge at this point.

Renmark is currently sitting 3rd but they are the 1 team that we cant quite get a judge on just yet. 2 solid wins so far but against the lower teams in Loxton & Berri, 1 loss which was against Loxton North by 17 points which shows they see to be rather competitive. They recruited nicely with Rhys Stanbridge, Jeremy Sezun, Fraser Sampson & Jacob Neary aswell as landing Laurence Angwin (not sure how many games hit will play). Renmark look to have the right mix of local talent & recruits to really show something this year, but we wont get a real insight for another few weeks as they play BMFC & Waikerie over the next 2 weeks.

Barmera-Monash have had a bit of a slow start to the season after making the GF last year & are also a bit tuff to judge at this point. A 52 point loss in Rd1 to Waikerie & another 10goal loss to North last week. They recruited well with some solid ins of Matt Min, Jacob Fisher, Matt Benson & Jack Selfe returning. Also retained Luke Thomas plus they have some pretty solid local talent in Millard, Middleton, Smith. The only questions is the size they have on the field & playing 6 quality kids with only a handful of A grade games under their belt. Can make things a bit tuff early on in the season. Would expect them to keep improving as the year goes on & can see them hitting their best come the 2nd half of the year. This weeks match against Renmark will be another good gauge to see where the Roo's are really at.

Loxton have come off some a couple really tuff years & look to be on the rise. Still don't look to be finals ready but are seem to be getting a lot more competitive each week. Recruited well with Mitch Guidolin, Matt Lidgerwood, Lewis Cregan & also guns Ben Yeomens & Raph Liddle returning back to the club. They may not have a win just yet but have been pretty competitive with a 26 point loss to Renmark, 77 point loss to BMFC & 91 point loss to Waikerie. Don't let the score lines fool you as against Waikerie they were within 4 goals at half time. They have some good fight in them. Would expect them to keep improving & could even notch up their first win this week against Berri.

Berri seem to be the big story of the season so far for the wrong reasons. Losing a lot of their team from last year & struggled to replace them, had a club record loss to Waikerie in rd 2 by 238 points. Then to follow that, Berri's coach parted ways with the club & 18's coach Brian Gates has stepped up to fill the role for the rest of 2017. It's hard to see what Berri can get out this season apart from getting A grade games into their younger kids & build for 2018. It's a tuff position to be in but you would expect the only way is up from here for them.

As we come into round 4, Waikerie & North look to be the teams to beat with Renmark & BMFC not too far behind. The season is shaping to be a ripper but it will take a huge effort to catch Waikerie (no one is un-beatable). Huge week of games this week, probably the biggest round of the season so far!!! North are home to Waikerie in a top of the table clash, BMFC travel to Renmark & Berri play Loxton which should also be a pretty interesting contest.
