He showed something in the last quarter, some really positive signs and fingers crossed MC give him another crack, just like they did for Dale.
We will just have to wait for Thursday night to find out whether he will get another chance!!!
We can use him as another tagger, as he has played some great shut down roles in the VFL.

This won't end well...

;)

Haha TG, I probably should have gone into a bit more detail.
I don't mean putting him on someone like Watson or Stanton.
If one of the youngster less experienced players in Essendon's side begin to stand up and play well (like Rohan Bewick did on Saturday) and we've got guys like Carrazzo and Curnow tagging the better players in Essendon's side,
I'm saying it is an option.
Just because he has played some really great negating, tagging roles in the VFL, which is totally different to the AFL, doesn't mean he will succeed in the AFL, but it is an option.
We need to have back up plans and it's just a thought.

I was inferring that the whiners will complain about Carlton using another good kick and creative player in a defensive role.;)

Think O'keeffe could play midfield/forward like Jordan Lewis, Heath Hocking and Mitch Robinson. Just needs an injury free run and a full pre-season to get his fitness up. Isn't quick, but his size, hardness, footy smarts and left foot counts in his favour. Can take a mark after looking at his U18 highlights.

From the Coach's box email.
Ratts full of praise for Rhys

Another player I'd like to make mention is Rhys O'Keeffe, the substitute who got his chance when Eddie Betts left the fray in the final quarter. Rhys' is another story of persistence. Through the pre-season period he was working on his rehabilitation and there was no doubt injury was causing him to worry whether he'd realise his ambition of playing AFL. He was in that mindset: "I know I've got the ability but can I get my body right?" and now it's great to see that his body has given him a chance. Rhys stuck to the task, got ten games under his belt for the Northern Blues in the VFL and has benefited from a plan that was put in place to enable him to get a crack at senior footy late in the season

Was shocked when he burnt off the Brisbane player to deliver inside 50. Torn between giving him another crack and making way for Juddy to give beating the Dons a real crack while seeing more of Bell.

have heard that from day 1 that ratten has had a thing for him even more then blues girl 4 life does ;) ...
what ever happens i'm happy he got to show he can play at the top level, his first game he had to play on one of the west coast big men (jamo went down) an got torn a new one...

hope he sneaks a full game in this week,

Rhys ready for the assault

If ever a current Carlton player mirrored the club’s time-honoured motto Mens Sana In Corpore Sano it’s Rhys O’Keeffe.

Of sound mind and body is precisely where the boy from North Adelaide now finds himself, having overcome a wretched run and finally getting his chance in game number two - albeit briefly - in the final quarter of Saturday night’s match with Brisbane at Etihad Stadium.

Now that doesn't sound like a player we're wanting to get off our list, does it?

What a great article! Thanks for sharing Harks, had trouble accessing the website, but that link worked for me.
“I’ve always tried to stay pretty grounded. I’ve thought about this year and not wanted to put too many expectations on myself and get too disheartened because everyone has bad days and I’ve had some dark days since I’ve been here . . . but I’m a better person for it now.”

When Rhys gets a gig at the MCG on Saturday he’ll know that father Tony, mother Sandra and younger sister Talia will be over from Adelaide and watching on. Rhys last saw them in March “and the last thing they say to me whenever we’ve spoken on the phone is ‘Don’t get injured’.”

“So it’s good to be able to finally play so that they can watch,” he said.
Hopefully that means he has got another chance this week! :thumbsu:

Think he shanked the kick. Ha ha. ROK has gained some pace after he lost five kgs and trimmed down.

I can't find the free on the Game Analyser, but I loved that Rhys gave away the free because he went in hard and slammed a Brisbane player into the turf. Hope Ratts' POTD means he'll stay. I would throw him at Monfries.

It was actually an okay tackle, one of those ones where he ended up on his back instead of initially pushing him there. Watched the first quarter again this morning to have a good look at him and he shows a nice little burst of speed to get to some tackles during that game.

Some of that footy smarts he's been promising.

no inside word, just a feeling I get....Bell, Dale and co are ahead of him and he now has to impress a brand new coach.

At the end of the day he's played 2 games for us this year, from the rookie list.

Disregarding the length of our injury list, that's a pretty good effort and I'm certain it won't go unnoticed - by our new coach or any assistants that stick around.

Rhys has been through a fair bit over the past few years in terms of injury and to make it to the senior side after all that is a great effort. It wouldn't make much sense to me to get rid of him.

If we can lose Russell who played seven games this year, then I'm not confident about the injury prone O'Keeffe surviving the cut.

I'm not too worried about it for now although it could happen in the second cut.
Still think that Carter would be in front of O'Keeffe should one be sliced.
