Was simply unbelievable for the first three quarters before having to leave the ground with a foot issue.
I have been a big critic of his. Not in his ability, but the position in which the club appeared to be molding him into and tonight, he gave us a sample of what may possibly be coming in time.

17 disposals (9 contested), 6 clearances, 24 hit-outs, 3 marks (1 contested), 3 inside fifties & 2 goals is an outstanding effort against a quality opponent.

If this is what's in store from Stanley in the coming year/s, I'll happily accept the egg(s) on the face multiple times over as we can now see what a difference it makes to the teams structure having a good ruck around the ground.

Kudos to Ballroom Blitz as he, like Stanley, took another step in the right direction tonight.
Good call Bobby. We really did well in that trade in the end. :)

Maybe Stanley can actually grow into that second tall forward for us. Similar role to Jenkins at Adelaide.

Would suit our game style as having Smith an 80% ruck with Stanley relieving for 20% and mainly playing forward.
Stanley already offers more than Jenkins.

His role is more like 50% forward, 25% ruck, 25% bench.

Really encouraging stuff, but lets do it against some more notable defenders, and more consistently! I for one questioned the decision to play him ahead of Kersten, or more to the point, not play Kersten, but it worked well.

Even CS said that a couple of his marks were over flanker types. yet balanced that with he could have had 3 against Jacobs if he had kicked straight.
I do agree though that , to a degree its easier to do it once or twice while the other clubs are still covering Hawkins hard., but opposition are forewarned now...
I have to say with a glass half full approach, id love to see his confidence just take off like Hawkins late in 2011.

He took one mark over that towering giant Caleb Daniel and he also followed up by kicking a goal.

they may been marks over smaller players, but the last quarter in particular he was plucking what seemed like everything around him.
If he kicks straight against the Crows.. and all 3 were pretty straight forward, then he has 8 in 2 weeks which is a fantastic return..
i have said before, he has all the tools to be a gun... as you said if he took off ala Hawk in 2011... geez he could carry us deep in September

That would be just awful for Hawkins if the opposition players went across to Stanley. He'd be so lonely with just one opponent.

Key thing for him is having no injuries. He is a confidence player and seems to play his best football when he has strung a lot of games in a row.

Exciting prospect for remainder of year.

Could become our last man / over the top running goal specialist.
He's a fair chance to outrun anybody , particularly if he's got a tall on him. If it's a small then either put it overhead so he can clunk it or still back his pace by putting it out front. Nice weapon to have :)

I'm not getting too excited about Rhys as a forward yet, as the Bulldogs had about half a back line last week and Essendon's will be just as bad this week, but encouraging signs nonetheless.

The good looks he got against the Crows excited me.. he worked his arse off to expose Jacobs in the backline. Shame he didn't kick straight to capitalise on it

agreed; his contested marking ability can stretch opposition defenses, but with his pace he has more than one string to his bow.

Not enough good things being said about him lately.
I'm guilty here too.

Belted him pretty hard when he was poor - he earned it - but now he's really taken steps to become the Tarzan player that fits the rig he's got - and its no surprise our team results have lifted with it.

He's been really good as seen above and im chewing on my posts as i read it.

Well done Rhys and long may it continue. Keep the good stuff coming and that #1 on your back will mean more about your position at the club.

I should add too that I saw him get crunched by Hickey in a ruck contest V WC - really hurt and Stanley went down and looked really hard.
Old Stanley would have jumped around the contest next time.

New Rhys went back to the well and hit Hickey with a knee up and got the clearance.

Tarzan vs Jane - and Tarzan is kicking arse.
