Ricciardo to make Formula 1 debut at Silverstone July 10, 2011.

The reason that Webber has copped so much in the past (not so much in the last couple of years) is that hopes were raised by his 5th placed finish on debut and then never came close again. For those that dont follow F1 (and therefore dont understand the car's effect on performance), that would seem like underperforming - hence the flak/disrespect/vitriol he has gotten.

Should everything go to plan for Ricciardo (2011 HRT -> 2012 Torro Roso -> 2013 RBR), he will get a lot of press when he gets results. One just has to look at the response a guy like Andrew Bogut gets from the Australian media to see that an Australian sportsperson can get recognition from the media here if they are personable and reasonably successful

Yep, the public just don't understand how much fight Webber has (a quality Australians usually use to self describe), things like Fuji '07(?) when Webber had food poisoning, threw up in his helmet, and fought on for the rest of the race and was so, so close to getting his first win when a little German s**t (some kid named Vettel) plowed into the back of him under the safety car.

It wasn't Vettel's fault. It was a racing accident, simple as that. s**t happens. Move on.

I never said it was Vettels fault, it was Hamiltons fault, he braked very hard very suddenly so Mark had to and Vettel didn't have the time to react. But Vettel DID crash into the back of Mark and what, I'm not allowed to dislike a driver or team?
What part of my statement was incorrect, or has angered you?

This thread needs to be moved to question time in the SRP forum...............

Anyway have we ever had two Australians in the top flight? apart from when Mclaren raced with brabham you could of claimed him like we claim Russel Crowe

well Ricciardo qualified 0.5 seconds slower than his teammate, however qualifying was a bit dicey with the rain and slippery track. Apparently more drizzle forecast for the race, so lets hope Ricciardo can keep it on the track and maybe even overtake a couple :thumbsu:

Well, apart from Canada when Liuzzi finished ahead of both Virgins, every time HRT finish the race this year they were the last of the race finishers. Ricciardo has a job ahead of him, I think if he finishes ahead of Liuzzi it'll be a 'win'.
