Just a trip down memory lane here,

Just thinking about Steinliens hit on Eckermann on the weekend brought back memorys of Ricciuto in 1996 (when Robert Shaw used him as the battering ram), 10 years on, how many times would have Roo been suspended if he had been given that job this year, based on the 1 or 2 hits a week he was doing that year

he probably would have got 5 or 6 games alone for his hit on Dean Kemp, but hell it was a beauty

Yeh, I think that incident was a pretty similar sort of contact and would probably be viewed the same by todays review panel.

Its incidents like that one that will be debated until the cows come home. The old timers probably think it was just another football bump, nothing in it, but the way the game is heading it is going to be outlawed and eliminated from the game. I dont know which way to go on this one. Ive always been a lover of the ruff and tumble but when you see real young guys like Eckerman getting knocked out like that, it makes me think a bit differently. It would be interesting to hear Eckermans opinion, having been the victim.

AND LIKE PICKETT THE BALL HAD LEFT THE SCENE

but Pickett was also going out of his way during that whole game to snipe at players

To me it was a true legal bumb, but his head was closer to the ground than most players, so took the impact. If it had been a bigger guy nothing would have happened.

only cos he was a short ass.... ;)

The only problem with the bump on Eckermann was it hit him in the face.
True but when you consider Stinger is 190 cm and Eckermann 177 cm that was always going to happen.

In all honesty I thought it was a pretty legitimate bump similar to the one Shaun Burgoyne dished out on Nathan Bassett a couple of years ago.

It was a legit, legal bump IMHO.

It's a legitimate bump but probably not legal as he was taken high. I had the same argument with a Port supporter about Burgoyne's bump on Bassett. It wasn't reportable, but had to be a free kick because he was hit high.

Yeah the Stinger bump was comparable in a way to that bump. It was nothing like Pickett who ran about 15 metres to line up Begley.

OK he got taken high but surely it wasn't worthy of suspension. Pay the free kick and get on with it.

Its a joke Stinger copped a week for a legitimate bump. Pay the free and get on with it. Don't suspend a player for something thats part of the game.

i was a big fan of worsfolds comments on the situation...

"One of the massive problems we face is that there's no rule to say that every footballer who plays the game is six foot two. Until they bring that rule in, everyone's in trouble.

I don't know why they let people be different heights. It's amazing."
