I just want to ask fans how come Ricciuto hasnt been talked up. The guy was a star and in my opinion should be ranked with hird, voss and buckley. Whats your views?

Debate = done to death

Superstar, champion, right up there

END OF THREAD

Yeah i commented on this in the Crawf, Black, West topic. Equal to the supposed big three of Buckley, Hird, Voss but NEVER gets the credit they do.

Yeah, been done before and I personally rate him just as high as those three if not higher than 1 or 2 of them.

Agree.

Hird, Voss, Buckly, Harvey and Roo. It is hard to split all of them. All played over 250 games (2 of them over 300), all won games off their own boot. all were great leaders (Harvey possibly the weakest part of his game). All won a brownlow, all multiple AA, three of them had premierships, etc etc.

Maybe he is from SA and don't get talked up in Vic?

Bingo.

The majority of the national football media is Victorian based. Look at all the footy shows and publications like Inside Football.

As such they are going to have a clear bias towards Victorian players. It sucks for non-Vics but it's understandable as they are essentially just aiming their content towards their main target audience.

Roo is every bit as good as the above mentioned, whether he is talked up in the media or not is irrelevant.

He is a dead-set champion, if he played for Collingwood he would have been regarded as the greatest player of all time.

Unless someone plays for Collingwood, Essendon or Carlton they pretty much don't get the recognition they deserve and to a lesser extent if they don't play for a Victorian team they are given very little recognition.

ummmm, are we forgetting about a guy called voss who is pretty highly regarded

Brisbane is considered a quasi-Victorian side given their links with Fitzroy, but they were a rare exception given a lot of their talent was from Victoria, Voss was a Victorian, and they had an explosive and dominant era when there wasn't a whole lot of opposition.

Cousins is equally up there for performance and leadership.

His personal life is a mess but that's largely irrelevant ala Ablett

Hang on mate, Archer was given his credit just as much as the others like Hirdy, Buckley and co.

He was talked up but isn't in that class. Carey was on the otherhand.

Advantages of being one of, if not the most, dominant team of the 90's

Wasnt in the same class? Archer was a brilliant player with all the skills.

For me Hird, Carey, Buckley and Harvey are in their own league. Then your Ricciuto's, West's, Voss, rank on the next perch not quite the same.

Please show some respect.... He was a lot better than those two. Put him in the Matera or Jakovich catergory but not Worsforld and McKenna

Matera and Jako were surely in the top notch during the 90's in the way that we talk about Voss, Hird, Bucks now?

Gee Freddy thats controversial with not including vossy with Hird and Carey :). Thankyou for putting Hirdy up there with carey. :thumbsu:

This is all opinion stuff, so there is no right or wrong, but, I see Hird, Buckley and Carey in a league of there own along with Harvey ( ablett, lockett, dunstall are a bit before there time, but equally good).
I dont see Voss, Matera, Jako, Hocking, West or Roo in that same bracket for different reasons but all were champions no doubt. In modern day players I dont see any of them in the elite bracket but most likely Buddy, Ablett will end up pretty close.

Archer will all due respect should not even be in this thread. Brave, great team man but we are talking about champions
