After watching Carlton vs Richmond, seeing Murphy, Gibbs, Judd and Curnow just tear Richmonds midfield apart, I was just thinking if only they recruited Rich @6 instead of letting him slide another spot, I think they would be a lot more dangerous, would easily be top couple midfields in the comp.
Would also be a much stronger chance pressing for top 4.
As it stands, they recruited Yarran who is a silky Hf type of player, which they are trying to make a defender, because they already have Betts and Garlett.

Rich is a better player but Carlton need Yarran more. Should've got Sidebottom though, their team would be a lot scarier with Steele roaming the flanks.

Yarran any day, even now if I had the choice I would take Yarran, kid is silky and has tons of class. Will take him a few more games to gel into his new role in the back half, but he is going to have a big year.

Collingwood would be scarier with Yarran picking up kicks as a high half forward and using his speed as a linkman.

Yarran is a damaging long kick with both feet. Will eventually move into the middle like Camporeale. Yet the 20 year old is more talented than Camporeale who won a flag, an AA jumper and a Best and fairest. Already drawing a hard tag after just 23 games because they know how good he is. Has the talent, skill and ability overhead to be better than Murphy.

Rich wouldn't get tagged if he played for Carlton, and the attitudes towards him would be much closer to where they were in his Rising Star year, which would probably put him ahead of Yarran in most people's eyes.

rich would be a better half forward than yarran, so even if carlton need a forward more, the better forward is rich anyway. Mistake taking yarran ahead of rich and will probably continue to be a mistake.

As it stands now id take rich, but if yarran can get that full potential to shine he would easily be the better of the 2, hes just a confidence player and once thats sky high carlton will have their version of cyril rioli.

Yarran. has a higher roof but is probably behind ATM.

Rich will struggle to reach his potential under voss as well. He will be better served under a different coach imo

Yarran.

After all those bottoms two finishes, it's great to have a quick player who doesn't make you hold your breath until they've put boot to ball. Tackling and ball control was the standout feature of Yarran's game against the Suns. Bounces running flat chat and re-gathers the ball with his non-dominant side without slowing.

Magician.

Turned Ablett inside out like he was a statue.

I agree, VFL team would look a lot more potent with Yarran.

Carlton would look significantly better if they'd taken Beams. He'd be a full time midfielder at Carlton and would be the perfect bloke to chop out Judd. Would save them having to waste a first rounder to bring in Brock as well.

Get the best of both worlds with Beams, averages the same amount of goals as Yarran even though he would've played probably half the amount of game time up forward compared to Yarran. Add in the ability to constantly rack up disposals through the middle and you wonder why they didn't snap him up when they had the chance.

Could've used pick 11 on a Lewis Jetta, Nathan Fyfe or Mitch Duncan the next year as well. Ah well, they'll learn from the mistake in time I guess.

I love when posters just pwn themselves, just sames be the time doing it.

Yet Leon Davis is in your start 22

Davis, Yarran, Ziebell, Duncan , another 10 players picked before him > Beams

Keep going fella.

wut

Leon Davis hasn't played for Collingwood in 2011 and played twos today. He is also a considerably better player than Yarran, so I'm sure how that strengthens your argument. Complete opposite in fact, if Davis can't get a game, what hope does Yarran have?

Davis, Yarran, Ziebell, Duncan , another 10 players picked before him > Beams

Mitch Duncan was drafted in 2009. And c'mon, you don't seriously think any of those other three you listed are better than Beams? Yarran and Ziebell especially, I mean, Beams pales them in every area you could think of to date. Beams average more possessions, more goals, polled more brownlow votes, finished top three in the RS and finished higher in his club's BnF than the other 3 both years since debuting. Beams broke into and maintained his spot (45 games now), going on to finish 6th in the premier's best and fairest, where as in comparison Chris Yarran has struggled to gain traction in a team that hasn't won a final in 10 years, he has spent big chunks of his time playing twos for a run of the mill team.

I also like when posters "pwn" themselves, especially when they do it 3 times in the space of about 100 words, i.e. your post.

Quite simple really... Rich at Carlton would be an upgrade of maybe Robinson who is going great guns this year...

However Yarran is the only one of his type and class at half back for us. We would have no replacement... now teams will try to shut him down... and thats understandable... and he'll have quiet ones... but he'll eventually learn how to deal with it...

Rich would allow your best half back player in Gibbs to stay there.
I would think Rich is as good as Gibbs in the middle, and Gibbs is alot better across half back then Yarren.

 not sure if serious....
Why?
do you think Rich is better? That would be a little harsh on Gibbs.

Gee, Rich is quality, kicks goals when they are needed the most, defenetly in finals, his kicking is worth a goal or 2 a game alone. If he was around Murphy, Judd, Curnow it would be a devestating midfield combo.

Also adds a degree of toughness around the ball which Yarren clearly lacks, defenetly in comparison to Rich.

Yarran is a super talent, but I reckon Rich would improve Carlton more. The Blues front-line midfield is good, but IMO it doesn't run as deep as the best teams. Add Rich and it spreads the load, and by spreading the load you probably give Gibbs and Murphy a better chance of flourishing. Not sure that Yarran will develop into a front-line mid (I see him as more of a classy flanker).

Which we definitely need. His run from defence is the best at the club, bar none.

While it's been a weakness in recent years, we seem to be addressing our need for a tough, inside midfielder. Judd's obviously brilliant at it but this season he's got Robinson and Curnow performing admirable support roles. Both would be top 10 in our B&F so far, perhaps nudging top 5.

We've got Ellard and Mclean in the VFL at the moment who can come in too and perform in that position. Handy depth players, particularly Mclean if he can get his body right.

Rich would be very handy with his brilliant kick and ball winning ability but Yarran truly is a unique player with his speed and footskills. Decent defensively, too.
