Where do you carry a player? Or more to the point at the expense of whom? If you play Presti, Wakelin, Clement and Maxwell where does Tex fit in? We are already carrying/developing Maxwell, H.Shaw and Swan down back. If we have to carry another development tallish player I’d rather it was O’Brien or even someone like Travis Cloke getting CHB experience. We have J. Cloke for depth. I just don’t see how Walker can play a role short of massive pre season improvement or a big injury count. I think he's had his shot and isn't good enough. I don't really mind him getting another year but on balance a call should have been made between him and Hall IMO. I'd rather have punted on Davidson or O'Brien myself.

Maxwell and J Cloke are not key position players. Neither is Clement, he just happens to be good enough to play anywhere. That leaves Presti and Waklein with no long term replacements. In any case, Presti Wakes and Clem will be gone in 3 years. Rocca will also be gone soon, leaving a position at CHF for Trav Cloke.

O'Brien will get his day. Davidson had his time, and even if he succeeds it will be as a forward. Arguably one of Hall and Walker could have been delisted this year, but Walker had injuries in 2005 and Hall was only in his second season after being a very young draftee the season before. I can understand why they were both retained. Hall maybe was lucky that Billy Morrison was worse than him.

Where do you carry him? At Williamstown of course. He needs to force his way into the senior squad, the same as everybody else. If O'Brien or Anthony or Hall or a Cloke or whoever else plays better than him during the VFL season, then he's toast.

So the 190cm Clement and Maxwell aren't KPPs, and the 189cm Jason Cloke isn't, but the 187cm Harry O'Brien is?

Maxwell is 1cm shorter than Ben Rutten, Chad Cornes and Justin Leppitsch.

He's the same height as Trent Croad and Andrew Kellaway.

He's taller than Leo Barry, Ben Hart, Adam McPhee.

What do these players have in common? They've all been named in the All-Australian team as key defenders, and continue to be successful playing the position.

Leo Barry at 184cm managing to play fullback against guys like Fraser Gehrig shows that size isn't everything.

Fair enough.

Maybe they are good enough if they are good enough, irrepsective of height. But I still think Maxwell will be better suited to Clement's back flank position. Maybe J Cloke can fill CHB long term, but on the other hand he was nearly delisted last year. O'Brien maybe at full back/back pocket (he's not even a listed player yet - give the kid some time!!!) - but that would leave the defence lacking some height. We need at least one taller player in defence to replace Presti and Wakes, and at the moment, like it or not, the only options we have are Walker Hall and Cam Cloke.

Like I said, Walker and Hall can go at the end of the season if the other candidates for CHB and FB do better than them in season 2006.

he could bounce back to hurt us

I've never been able to understand this point of view.

He played shyte football with us.
If he is now able to play decent football with another club, why is that a concern for us?
Why will that hurt us?

Exactly. He's gone, we got a fair trade for him, lets move on and worry about players who are on our list, not those at other clubs.

Here's hoping that Cole didn't dog it for 2 years to get where he wanted to. (me thinks he may have).

Had plenty of potential (like most) but hard to see how he could slip so far in such a short time.

Biggest moment - crunching tackle/bumb in the goal square against North.

Worst moment - everytime he got caught holding the ball.

The quicker we forget about the name Richard Cole, the better.

FIGGY, please delete this thread for the happiness of all Collingwood supporters. :thumbsu:

So putting aside the facts that Im an Essendon supporter and he came to Essendon what do you guys really think of him? Is he any good? Does he have the potential to be great? Is the labelling him of a dud by some Collingwood supporters just bitterness that hes no longer with you or is he really that bad?
Mr Essendon supporter I hope you enjoy Richard Cole because nobody at Collingwood did.

Man he sucked... I'd rather Scott Cummings come back then have another year with Cole...
