This will be my final post regarding Richie. I have to admit I'm a bit biased, I saw the kid play often for the Ranges, the Box Hill City Oval being ten minutes walk from my place. He was a slashing wingman with electrifying speed and skill and ALL the recruiters gave each other knowing nods in agreement, the boy had enormous potential. I was rapt we got him and he was worth the pick we used at the time. I would like to know what the phark happened? Todays story in the Age still doesn't answer the many questions Collingwood supporters have. He lost all confidence in 2005 yet doesn't know why. And if he considered retirement several times then it's probably a good thing we moved him on. One of my lasting memories wil be of my non Collingwood mates laughing hysterically at the Box Hill Willi game at a player who was now roughly the size of Jupiter compared with the others running around. I see he's still grossly overweight and suspect he'll stay that way, Dean Rioli hardly being the ideal mentor in that regard. Football clubs are all pretty much the same so Richies 'Grass being greener' idea for a fresh start probably won't be enough to provide him with the motivation he needs. Did the club err in trying to turn him into a chunky Chris Johnson type small defender? I suspect they did but his low possession and horrendous turnover margin every year he's been with us not to mention poor decision making doesn't augur well for the future. But I can still remember the skinny wingman who looked to have it all, and I still don't know why it all went so wrong.

Cole was unhappy at Collingwood.

Noel Judkins must of known that he had family relations who worked at Essendon, so it comes down to lack of knowledge from Judkins and the Collingwood recruiting staff. It was a mistake drafting Cole, because we should've known he was Essendon at heart.

That is to simple. Most kids have diehard allegiances when they are drafted. See Ben McKinley's (Essendon) response to getting drafted by the Eagles? I suspect it has more to do with mental toughness. If you could put Buckley's drive into Richie's head he could be really good. Thats what ultimately will make Cole and also-ran, he doesn't have the drive to succeed.

Blood is thicker than Water, unfortunately, Richard Cole wanted to go back too Essendon. It might be simple, but it's right.

Richard is and will always be a traitor, because he loves his ******** Essenscum.

I was very, very scared whenever he got the ball...no other Pies player would bring out that angst in me...summing up I really dont think we will miss him...

I harbour no ill feelings towards him, but I dont think Sheeds will be able to miraculously turn him around.....

Whenever Cole got it he would run 15m and not bounce it, or run 15m bounce it, run 10 more m and get tackled, holding the ball

It always happened, it angered me and everyone around me each time...he did it on a consistent basis!

Wont miss him

Cole was a dud for most of his time at Collingwood except for a run of 10 games in 2003.

Even then, as he did all his career, he held onto the ball too long and got caught.

Also turned chickenhearted in the 2003 GF.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

At least we have repaid Essendon now for Olarenshaw. (though we did send David Robertson that way as well).

I'm glad he's gone - Even if Cook is the worst player we've ever let onto a Collingwood list, at least we know that we tried to get someone committed, rather than Fatso Cole.

If there is one genuine collingwood supporter who doesnt totally relate to what youre saying here theyre lying, blind or totally devoid of a central nervous system.

The guy was an accident waiting to happen.
