jesus H christ, it aint even a contest, the two number 13's and Thomas has hit more marks with his passes in two games than Cole did in 4 years

Gee Daisy looks good doesn't he?

But I'm going to try and keep a lid on it... Remember Mark McGough's first 2 games? Something about Thomas makes it hard not to be optimistic though.

Very happy with him so far.

Sparky will progress in leaps and bounds for every match he plays this season. He is a special player. So smart. So much class and time. And with Pendlebury, we have got the right mix.

being at the game i got to see all the 1%ers thomas did... he did soooo many smart tap-ons, that lead to quite a few goals... hes a real team player!

I havent seen penders play yet, but from the training sessions i have seen he looks like he has some special evasion skills, and his hand skills are excellent (expected of a basketballer)

And to think when we called out coles name at pick 11, dal santo was still there till pick 13.:(

How good would it be to have him in our side now.

It should be Danny Stanley or Ryan Cook v Richard Cole, depending on which players pick was used in the trade for him, I've forgotten which it was. Certainly with Stanley I would be confident of us coming out on top. He will play seniors this year barring injury.

Yeah yeah, and even the team that DID pick Dal Santo picked Xavier Clarke 8 picks earlier...

It's easy to use hindsight when the fact of the matter is at the time it was a bit of a shock for us to actually get the extremely highly rated Richard Cole at #11.

We got pick 23 from Essendon for Richie Cole so the real comparison should be with Ryan Cook. I used to play juniors with him and he was a superb player. Will only impress at AFL level once given the chance. A smart and highly skilled player. Just needs to add some weight to his frame.

Xavier clarke isnt a bad player, not sure why you think he is relevant to what i said.

Cole was highly rated by who?

Probably only 'experts' like wiseby and yourself rated him.

Rated top 10 by almost all the media.
AFL's Sheehan also rated him top 10.

Not sure where Wisbey had him

Wisbey had Cole up there with the best of them out of his draft. Saying stuff like Cole was going to be a fantastic footballer, who had all the skills.

No, I never rated him, but I didn't rate Dal Santo back then either.

People seem to assume that we were tossing up between the two, when it's entirely possible that we wouldn't have picked either if Cole was off the board.

We could have drafted Ashley Watson, Barry Brooks, Shane Harvey or Daniel Elstone with the picks, all of whom were picked inside the top 20, and they actually would have been leaving us wishing we picked Richard Cole...

And FYI, Cole was at #7 in Matt Burgan's phantom draft in 2001, while Dal Santo was at #16. He had Collingwood taking Mark Seaby with pick #11, which would have undoubtedly been a better move.

Who would you compare him to stylewise then? It is a bit strange that we picked him I think. Is he really talented enough that he could have gone top10 top15 next draft which is supposed to be pretty deep? That is what I have heard anyway. Because we could have picked another player who may have had more impact this season, or been more sure of them being a good AFL player.

Ryan Cook probably WOULDN'T have gone top 10-15 this draft, but he would have been drafted before our next pick at #37, and while he does need to improve to justify his draft position, being so young makes it likely that he will.

We essentially went for a younger player that may turn into something special rather than an older player who was slightly more of a known quantity.
