Then we are back to the earlier point you are in desperate need for a rebuild with no trade capital,

Not sure why it is so difficult to grasp that it is better to just trade away the C graders to give the kids opportunity
Why would they trade out players for picks though? They just drafted like 8 in the top 30 or something in the last couple of years.

Just revisiting this.

Currently Richmond are giving up more for Hopper than Geelong did for Dangerfield.

I understand why they did it, but he just isn't the right player for it. He is a B grader.
Don't think they expected this future pick alignment.

The thing is it doesn't change their list needs or their strategy. Could they have gotten a better outcome? Probably but it's academic. They identified a need an filled it

Could have filled it with Sonsie or Ross that were already on their list.

I think they got excited when Hopper unexpectedly chose them. Most thought he was Geelong bound, as has been widely reported

Thats not apples and apples though is it? Crows forced a trade so they'd get more than the one late competition pick, which they did. If Danger wasn't a free agent the trade would've looked alot different.

Hoppers best is A grade. Hopefully we get to see it.

7 year contracts will do that. I think the cats landed on their feet on that one.

With information available at the time it's hard to say it was a mistake to bring him in. 7 year contracts are a mistake though.

Its very close to apples and apples though. Geelong and Adelaide agreed to a trade. Adelaide didnt force anything. Geelong actually offered them an olive branch by trading and not asking Danger to go through free agency.

Bottom line is the total picks spent for Danger by Geelong are less than the total picks spent for Richmond on Hopper.

Danger was a 3 time All Australian and 1 x BnF winner at Adelaide.

Hopper hasnt done anything of note.

No it isn't. One bloke was a free agent and the other bloke was contracted. Dangerfield was also only going to Geelong. It's a terrible comparison.

It's like saying cats overpaid for Jeremy Cameron just cos we got Lynch for nothing. Who gives a *? Both clubs would do both deals again in a heartbeat.

Dangerfield was a great deal for the cats, but it can't be used as the measuring stick.

It's not a terrible comparison at all. They traded for Danger, he didn't exercise his free agency rights.

It's not a terrible comparison at all. They traded for Danger, he didn't exercise his free agency rights.
And if Geelong couldn't get a trade done, no one else would. He was moving to Moggs Creek.

If Richmond shirked the trade table there were other clubs that could have taken him. Hopper changing his mind last minute showed he was willing to consider options

Danger said he was going to the Cats, but supported the Crows getting something back. So there was a trade. Good on Danger for looking after his club, after looking after himself first. SO it was what the cats were willing to give to the Crows.

Hopper was bid on by multiple clubs. It was who bid the highest, and then if roughly equal who Hopper wanted - tigers.

Very different trades.

Cameron was similar though.

Jack Ross is someone at Richmond who would garner some interest if they want to try get back into the draft

Can't see us getting rid of him. He's finally locked down a spot and has become a very good wingman, far better than Pickett and McIntosh. Reckon he'll end up a good inside outside mid long term.

I know for a fact that he never changed his mind, he was always considering options, but never committed to the Cats then flipped on it. The media reported he was cats bound but that doesnt make it true.

Cant afford to lose him, one of very few kids that looks like being a serious player.

Jacob Hoppers best is nowhere near A grade,

Taranto made sense and has shown he can be at GWS and now at Richmond Hopper has shown that he can be a good player but never the kind of player to win games for you just play a good role in it which is what clubs need but shouldn't pay what you paid
