Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

Exactly, the way I see it the difference between pick 2 and 6 this year is simply preference of player, not actually quality.

So to pay pick 11 in this draft for the privilege to choose the same quality of player is way overs. 6 & 23 into 6 & 18 feels reasonable in this draft. The emphasis being on in this draft.
We hear this a lot. But if it is the case, could Richmond also be looking to split pick 1? Say with Melbourne 1,20,23 > 5,9, or similar with St Kilda. With the picks they have, they have a heap of options, but at the moment none of us have any idea what their thinking is.

We'd probably have considered it if we didn't already have 7 other 1st rounders.

No point really as under both Scenario you only get 1 in the top 6 players
Pick #9 falls into the next tier where we already have #10 + #11 and i dont think Melbourne would look at later picks for #9

So now that the dust has settled it's time to see if the Tigers has actually won during the trade period.

This is only for players traded and picks received.

Daniel Rioli traded for Picks 6&23 = Josh Smillie (6) & Harry Armstrong (23) :heavycheck::heavycheck: Big Win

Shai Bolton traded for Picks 10 & 11 = Taj Hotton (10) & Jonty Faull (11) :heavycheck::heavycheck: Undecided yet

Liam Baker traded for Pick 14 = Luke Trainor :heavycheck: Big Win

Jack Graham traded for Pick 42 = Jasper Alger :heavycheck: Big Win

Not quite right. It was effectively:
Rioli + F2 for Smillie + North's F1
Baker, Bolton + F3 for Hotton, Faull and Trainor
Graham + junk picks to Brisbane for Armstrong
F4 for Alger

Or...for a slightly less biased view...

Daniel Rioli traded for Picks 6&23 = Josh Smillie (6) & Harry Armstrong (23) - TBC

Shai Bolton traded for Picks 10 & 11 = Taj Hotton (10) & Jonty Faull (11) - TBC

Liam Baker traded for Pick 14 = Luke Trainor - TBC

Jack Graham traded for Pick 42 = Jasper Alger - TBC

Getting young talent in through the door is great, but there is a not so distant universe in which each of the four end up a loss for Richmond.

Reckon you'd love nothing more, but even with your level of bias, that is a stretch.

Au contraire, I’d be very happy to see it result in an all time draft class.

As a DTFA lover, I’m all for clubs making bold moves and it’d be exciting to see such a ballsy move pay off.

Long way to go before we get there though - let’s wait and see how the kids go.

So true.

Liken this draft to the 2015 draft for Carlton. It’s essentially ground zero with a small smattering of players.
So to see results and get back to true contention realistically Richmond are several years away at best.

We also need to trade in well to get a good mix to support this bunch of talent.

We definitely can’t afford to burn as many top draft picks as the blues did in that 2015-2018 period though. Bolstering the recruitment dept will be a priority for Hartley now.

Time will tell how these lads end up.
As a supporter I’m optimistic early.

That's any trade though for any club isn't it?

They're all TBCs until years later unless it's an immediate obvious effect, more often with mature players that have instant impact.

Also, I still believe trades can be win/win. Shai Bolton might go on to multiple AAs and help win Freo a flag, and Hotton and Faull might become key cogs for 15 years at Richmond and may be part of our next flag. Win/win.

Yes, the 2015 Carlton draft was an unbelievably good haul.

If Richmond do similarly out of the 2024 crop, it is a huge win.

Of course. I wasn't being critical of Richmond at all - they did the right thing.

At the moment you can't really say any of the trades are a 'win' for Richmond if basing it off the players selected, because none of them have done anything.

We need to see them at AFL level first. Maybe all will hit and be superstars, maybe only some will, or maybe none will, Only time will tell.

Yup. Weitering, Curnow and Mackay set them up for their tilt. They went the Hawthorn route building the spine early and they ended up picking the right players to do so.

We have gone the same path. I like the strategy. Hopefully we’ve picked the right players.

Supporters are very happy, most of the media think we did very well. We took a couple of risks, but with the number of picks we had its worth it. If we end up getting even half of these picks right we have nailed it.

Well I think the jury is out on 5 of your picks. Hotton, smillie and Lalor should be guns though.
Yep, if we had have gone with your deal we would have got FOS for Smillie, Faull and Trainor.

Would have been livid if we did that.
But then again, your post shows everyone’s a draft expert on Bigfooty.

Osullivan would have worked better with Lalor

With what Smillie has shown at training in just 2 weeks he is already being talked about as a future captain of the club
well respected training watchers that have good connections with the club and players mentioned he is talked about extremely highly for his leadership and professionalism already

I think internally Smillie as our 2nd choice was always on the cards and the main reason the club was not interested in trading up for the eagles #3 or North's #2

The only selection that i would have been different is the Faull selection which i think Berry would have been the perfect selection with what we got later in Trainor , Sims & Armstrong but Alger was a bonus at #53 (effectively our F4)
