I wouldn’t knock Schubert, if we trade down and take him with our last of the 3 I’d be pretty happy, he’s the perfect forward alongside Shanahan and Snake, he’d come in and genuinely be better than every other forward we have except maybe Baz, who has like 7 years on him. He’d be awesome at the eagles if we got Sharp to win it and someone with high upside skills to deliver it well with the other pick.

Robey seems a lock I thought Grlj or Lindsay would suit best but pick 4 early maybe trade back?

Robey and one of Grlj/Cumming/Taylor (in that order of preference). Happy to slide back from 4 to Essendon's pick 6 to get something extra and take whoever is left. Wouldn't be unhappy with Sharp either if we slid back to 7, but I wouldn't be sliding further than that.

In 2 years you will have the core of a rebuild completed and in the right sequence with talls first then mids. Obviously some luck with players leaving to clubs who paid premium prices but you take what you can. The point was know where your list is at, aggressively secure top end draft picks whilst keeping enough leadership to develop them. Empowered your leadership team to do their job and pick the right players to achieve success as they spend all year focused on that. A future case study no doubt.
And then there’s Essendon…

The Richmond board has, with inside information, identified about 10 players in the zone. But from guys who have a track record of actual inside knowledge there hasn't been much. I'd take Sharp and then Grilj or Taylor. But then I am also a keyboard warrior with no real inside knowledge.

I think you did so well last draft it’s all about BPA. You have 2 big bodied mids so you can chase talent in the middle regardless of size.

Project talls? Tick maybe too many. Likely shift one into defence at some point.

It’s a great spot to be in.

Sam Grlj would have to be a big chance to be picked by us, has played for our VFL team.
He is exactly what we need hard working running player that can potentially go inside.

Ben Miller had a great season at full back. Campbell Gray is next in line. Don't think we need anymore.

I wouldn't call Taylor a key defender. More a cross between Weddle and Vlastuin.

We shouldn't be really drafting for now though. Players like Miller and Balta etc are much older, Id be basing it all around the group of players u23 we have, so wouldn't have a problem taking Taylor.

Agree. Will be interesting if we hit one more draft or start to target FA's.

Good position to be in having done majority of drafting completed before tassie plunder it.

What I like is that the club has focused on building a spine first, and then added some X factor. So the focus of rebuilding teams in having too many mids and not enough KPs etc is already addressed. Doesn't mean there's a dynasty around the corner. But we start with a well balanced list - in prospect.

Now fill in holes and use the huge treasure chest to get good FAs and we'll see how it goes.

Helps that the club ensured that there was a good group of older leadership to protect the kids and mentor them. Hopefully will make for a faster development and a good culture up front.
