I have posted before that any team that trades with the expansion teams should lose an extra pick

eg trade 2nd round pick for a player then they also lose that pick in the following years draft
LOL!! Sorry, why should anyone lose any picks at all for trading with the recipients??? If it werent for these manufactured entities and Vlads social engineering experiment then those players would have been available to the rest of us in the plain old normal draft anyway and the talent pool wouldnt have been artificially depleted and diluted for those few years. The non-expansion clubs have already paid a heavy price for those two clubs entering the league that noone even wanted, why on earth would you even consider it fair to hit clubs with another penalty just for access to players who they shouldve had opportunity to go after if they wanted in the first place?

1. Free agency, and the pull of big Vic clubs
2. Gold Coast and to a lesser extent GWS, and the lack of player interest in sticking around at those clubs
3. Endorsements/media income in Victoria, which makes the salary cap a bit of a farce

1. Richmond was not a big club in 2010. It suffered from crippling debt and shitty timeslots/fixturing, not to mention the least-experienced team of the last 20 years excluding GWS and Gold Coast themselves. All it had going for it at that point was a proud (if distant) history, a large latent supporter base and selfless people willing to undertake the task of turning things around. Here is some background to where Richmond "was at" in 2010.

2. Miles - delisted; GWS phoned Richmond to help him find a home
Townsend - delisted
Caddy - acquired via trade (from a third club)
Prestia - acquired via trade
Weller - delisted (via a third club)
Lynch - cost us five depth players but sure, a very agreeable deal. First round draft pick Brandon Ellis is about to go in the other direction using the same mechanism.

3. I don't know the fine detail, only that players have been squeezed out of the club to accommodate Lynch and Prestia in particular, while others have accepted pay cuts.

There are nine clubs here, ten if you count Geelong, competing for sponsors. During pre-season and without a major sponsor for 2011, Richmond was deep into negotiations with Skoda when the AFL stepped in and steered Skoda into the arms of their new baby (hence "Skoda Stadium"). How's that for winning from expansion?
Looking back at the 2010 AFL Draft, Richmond came out with the haul of four players from the first round:
Pick 6 - Reece Conca, picked by Richmond

In an already depleted draft. Not fair compensation for finishing second-last and not how the draft was intended to work.

Richmond was fortunate that Deledio (and possibly others) resisted the overtures of the new clubs and elected to stay on lesser coin.

I believe Matt White is the only departure under Hardwick that the club tried to keep (and his father disputes even that). Compare the list of departures to that from Adelaide in the same period...

Build it and they will come.

So lucky you didn’t play the Tigers in Perth.

If you couldn’t beat Hawthorn in the last game of the year and throw away a double chance you really can’t complain about Richmond not playing in Perth again West Coast.

Tigers are suited to Optus as it is the same size as the G.

They would have flogged you there and you may have finished even lower.

I think the dumbest rule the AFL agreed to is the 95% floor cap or whatever it is, forcing the bad clubs like Gold Coast to pay almost as much for their players as Richmond do, and as a result Gold Coast have no salary cap power to either go after big fish players or even keep their own players. Lowering the cap floor to 90% or even 85% would help the poorer clubs a lot.

As someone who generally defends the system, this is bang on. If I was to change one thing about player movement, this would be it.

You know that the Tiges are back, on top of the tree, when fans from the C clubs - that watched from the wayside, in 2019 - start searching for all of the unfair things that they can find, or coin, to vent their pain. Reminds me of the way in which the season's also-rans used to howl - at Vic park, and in Lygon street - back in the seventies! Instead of complaining about a great club's courageous and insightful recruiting gains, how about congratulating Richmond for creating such a joyful, healthy, embracing friendly family culture: one in which which such positive stories - for players like Sydney Stack and Marlion Pickett -are able to flourish and unfold?

Dont have any issues Vic teams trading in players.

Do have an issue with top for teams getting free agents and paying nothing.

The FA system should change where a top 4 team should cough up their 1st to go to the team losing the fa plus they get the compo pick. None of this twobites at the cherry.

It wouldnt have stopped Richmond this year but the AFL needs to pull its head in and even up the fixture ffs. When was the last time Richmond played the Eagles twice in a season.

Tigers gifted a dream run home for the final three months of the season with two trips outside Vic. AFL love their MCG Tigers games to pay for their fat bonuses.

Richmonds double up games in 2019 reflected their top 3 finish in 2018. We had return games against Collingwood (GF in 2018), GWS (5th in 2018), Melbourne (Prelim Final in 2018), Port & Carlton. Only Melbourne failed to live up to the expectations but that was impossible to predict when the fixture was released last October. Port was the mid table team & Carlton the sole team in the bottom 6. Not sure why playing the Eagles twice would have an impact. They beat us in Perth, and we invariably beat them here.

as far as im concerned the afl didnt give a rats ass when richmond was in the s**tter during save our skins or when we were s**t for 37 years. The fact that we had to rebuild during compromised drafts also didnt even make a blip on the AFL's radar. The fact that GC's gun players ended up at richmond is just karma for that s**tstain of a club being in existence. Long may they rot at the bottom.
Yeah but what dya really think?
