Geelong
Was looking ahead at the fixture and saw we play the Tigers down in Geelong (the first time since 2012) in Round 21.

With the Richmond faithful up and about and the real possibility of Richmond being a finals (or even a top 4) contender, you can bet if they are still sitting towards the pointy end of the ladder there will be at least some arguments made by fans and significant media types to have the game moved to the G or Etihad, something that (probably) won't happen.

How big do you reckon this storm in a teacup will get by then and is there any chance of the AFL buckling and 'giving the fans what they want' and moving it to a larger venue?

If this does not warrant it's own thread, I'm happy to delete it.

Can't see how the AFL could move it in this day and age due to sponsorship, signage, corporate stuff etc.
Surely if sponsors paid for a certain amount of games they'd expect to get them.
There will be a massive shitfight over this but if everyone stands firm over time people will get used to it.
Tax payers paid a very lot of money for the ground and the community should expect the place to be used as much as possible.
Other clubs and fans are just going have to suck it up and accept that's the way it is now.

If they have a problem they can sell more games to Darwin/wherever
Yeah. Don't they sell games to Cairns.
Bet ya still have a massive whinge about this away game though.
I can imagine Eddie whining non stop about it on MMM every morning making sure they never have to play there.

0% chance it'll be moved, even if Richmond are on top of the ladder at that stage (which is something else that's a 0% chance of happening).

The AFL won't move stadiums unless it's an extraordinary circumstance, and this is anything but.

Have a look at the tigers fixture, the next 10 games arent to flash. If they're the real deal which i dont think they are, they'll have no troubles taking us on at home.

Plus im doubtful the AFL won't turn its back on the only team in Victoria outside of Melbourne who gets less home games then anyone anyway.

Too many negatives here for me to follow exactly what you mean. For the record, I don't think for a minute that fairness will enter the AFL's mind if a move was in their financial interest. (BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if Brian Cook et al supported a move as a home game at a packed MCG would be a huge financial windfall for the GFC).

I remember the vague talk of having the 2009 game against St Kilda moved. If the Cats and Tigers were both somehow undefeated come Round 21, they might have a better case.

I'm doubtful the AFL gives a fig.

Wait till Hungry gets this on his radar. He will go to town with half facts. It might pay for Geelong to pre-empt this . Talk to the AFL if they are still happy with it etc , saying our capacity will be 35,000+/- and we will have x number of seats available for Richmond supporters. I doubt it will be moved and when it does get raised we can say the AFL have ressesss and are totally on board with it considering historical attendance from Richmond supporters.
It is afternoon game so it probably will be on fta

Years ago before I had a reserved seat I was locked out of a Cats v Tigers game. Wayne Campbell's last game if I remember rightly. Tiger supporters all over the place. Well, it's their turn to risk missing out.

The AFL can act like any other dictatorship. They can do what they want, when they want. And plenty of fans will nod sagely and say they agree.

Actually, lets play them at the G and the AFL can give us a home final at KP as compo

Kevin Bartlett will be calling for a Royal Commission

Thought this thread would be about our first 5 games when I opened it. So much saltiness on the MB about how we haven't played a 'real' team yet.

Still 17 weeks between now and when we play them. A lot can happen in that time - IMO the wheels will fall off mid-season for Richmond anyway (ala North last season). Cats v Tigers wouldn't have been viewed as a potential drawcard when the fixture was constructed, so just their bad luck unfortunately. Not Richmond's job to dictate where our home games are/aren't played.

Let's not be too generous. We want Simonds Stadium to be a fortress like Adelaide Oval is for the Crows and Power. Give Richmond the bare minimum seats.

There is no conceivable way the game can or should be moved from Simonds

When it comes to money and having to possibly provide compensation it might be a different story though.
I dunno how it works but wouldn't all the companies who paid for signage & advertising plus catering companies etc etc want compensation for missing out on a game they paid for?
Also social club members, and KP reserved seat holders. It might cost more to move it than getting 80,000 at the G.
But yeah I actually don't know.

generosity has little to do with it. I highly doubt we ever will see an attendance that matches the theoretical capacity..the only way it will get close is with non geelong...just like the Freo final. Lets just see if any game gets above 30,000 after stage 4 is complete.

The reasoned soul in me tells the Tiggers and AFL to GAGF.

Game stays at KP regardless of crowd size. Its a GFC home game at KP - and the days of moving games away from KP are no longer justified. Etihad home games are no more.

Now, given we may have to move the Cats Doggies KP game to a new venue as we set a date that might not be met, then we are kinda over the barral at that point IMO.

And of course, as Partridge said, the AFL can just do whatever the hell it wants... and tends to do so away so we kinda passengers.. :(

Go Catters
