As announced by Michaels on the main board Tayla Stahl will be one of our sponsored players for 2020.

Tayla's history is well known. We have all had lapses in judgement as young people but Tayla's indiscretion at 19 could have set the course for the rest of her life but it didn't and full credit to her.

Tayla's remarkable story is worthy of similar praise as that bestowed on Marlion Pickett and Sydney Stack (deservingly so I might add) who have had to overcome their own challenges to pull on the Yellow and Black.

Her recent football journey is impressive. Lining up for the Bass Coast Breakers in the South Eastern Women’s Football Development League in their first season in 2017, Tayla came runner up in the club Best and Fairest and the goal kicking.

In 2018 the Breakers won the Premiership and Tayla took out the League Best and Fairest and won the League goal kicking with 61 goals from 12 matches, a massive 41 goals ahead of the second placed player on 19. Along the way she kicked 2 bags of 8 goals and and kicked 5 plus on another 5 occasions. It was a year that put Tayla firmly on the Tigers radar for our VFLW team although looking at the history, perhaps the easiest thing to do was to overlook her. As we now know, that just isn't the Richmond way and Neil Balme, Kate Sheahan and Tommy Hunter added Tayla to our VFLW squad. By the end of the first round, after she had kicked 6 against Darebin, the Tigers had seen enough and named Tayla as their 10th AFLW signing.

Playing as a forward, Tayla's stats during the 2019 VFLW season were:

14 Games
19 Goals

Averages:
10 Disposals
3 Marks
2 Tackles
8th place in club B & F

At seasons end Tayla was selected in the Forward Pocket in the VFLW Team of the Year. Also in the team were Tommy Hunter (coach) Monique Conti (Interchange) and Rebecca Miller (Center Half Back )

Ella Angarane, founder of the Bass Coast Breakers probably put it best when describing Stahl as a player;

“She has played mostly on the forward flank, Tayla’s got one of the biggest kicks of the side, so she was well suited to playing there.
“Tayla can gather the ball and explode putting others on the back foot like they’re in slow motion.

Also described as clean, quick and evasive, it's going to be exciting to see her compete at the highest level. The world is her oyster and Tayla has given herself every opportunity through sheer hard work and determination. Good luck Tayla. Eat 'em alive!
