straight out the worst posters in this thread seem to be Carlton supporters - Richmond fans for the most seem to be 'would prefer to wear home but dont give a **** playing GF'

meanwhile you and some other carlton folk have gone on as if it's a direct insult or something stupid like that

check out the kit carlton wore in the 1909 GF - go to 2.07 (though watch the start for all the hats in the crowd!)

Good to watch. Bloody ump robbed 'em.

What is my point? My point is that history and tradition is made by how we make it - Just because something is different doesn't make it bad - Richmond are still wearing Yellow & Black - They are still undeniably Richmond. Embrace it and grow up
None of those people are alive to uphold the fashions of the day.

Richmond has one jumper; the rest are gimmicks. But obviously, being forced to wear the gimmick in a GF pales in importance against being there. It's more important to older Richmond people than the current players, so it's sensible that we've rolled over and not created a distraction.

that's right, I counted THREE different Carlton tops in the same game!

Then South Melbourne come out with sashes in different direction

Unlike you I honour and respect the cultural heritage of Australian football. For you I am sure everything should be knocked down.

That Westminster Abbey in London would be a good place to put a freeway through that, wouldn't you agree. Knock it down. MCG is a good place for a wind farm or a factory. Knock it down. Cultural heritage that provides a link of continuity over generations- knock it down.

Carlton is so old that it dates back to 1864. This means that there was a time when they didn't wear the CFC guernsey. Guess what! They once wore knickerbockers, they once rode bicycles to work, they once didn't have mobile phones, woopedo-dah! I am not against progress, I am against actions that are without reason.

A sensible solution was open to AFL even If one believes in clash myth. They could have gotten them to wear yellow on back, down side, over shoulder whatever and still kept sash but they're pig headed about it. Defacing something of beauty and purpose is their preferred option. So be it.

So if the GF match up was Fremantle (1st) v Carlton (3rd), both clubs should wear home jumpers, with the Blues in white shorts and that would be fine with everyone?

Let's hope Carlton never make a grand final ever again, because it sounds like their supporters wouldn't survive the stress of having to wear their clash strip.

I can see why wearing the white shorts seemed like an adequate differentiator in those days.....

I absolutely would want both clubs to wear their home jumpers, I have never once watched a game and had troubles with clashing jumpers (for the many years where clash jumpers didn't exist).

There is no clash there even if north wear their mainly blue outfit and blue shorts and we wear the mainly white away gear.
Why people thought there was a problem with Collingwood and north for so long is a complete mystery

If they win, watching reruns of the game would be painful as watching only 20% Richmond not 100% Richmond. I guess their supporters should be grateful suits in AFL House haven't altered their club song. One day no doubt some executive trying to make mark on game will say the song clashes with someone or something.
What the **** are you on about campaigner? What kind of mentality is this - that wearing a clash would make your team 20% of what they potentially could be?

Lol there is no clash with Richmond and Adelaide but alas here we are. Isn't the mainly blue outfit their away jumper? so lets say North finish first, logically I would say they wear the white top and white shorts but I reckon people would be kicking up a fuss ("Collingwood gets preferential treatment") while we wear the black top with black shorts despite being the "away" team because I think our white away gear would clash with their blue away gear??

AFL got this one wrong no clash richmond wear white shorts just more marketing crap, the richmond marketing team are probably enjoying it another 20000 jumpers sold
Enjoying it heaps, not just because it's an extra 20,000 jumpers sold, but 20,000 impressive looking jumpers sold.

If ADL had ever bothered to make a properly good clash you'd be frothing over it too.

Richmond should feel honoured to wear an iconic jumper.

So many champions have worn that jumper.

Definitely a case for the yellow top to be paired with black shorts for some games. That combo looks that much better than the white shorts.

A couple of things wrong with that post:

1) Adelaide and Richmond clash, Adelaide is 60% dark 20% yellow and 20% red while Richmond is 70% dark, and 30% yellow. In every other professional sporting organisation in the world that is a clash.

2) North's home jumper is predominantly blue with white stripes. In the scenario you are suggesting, Collingwood would be forced into their white jumper with black stripes and white shorts.
