I watched the first half of a game between tigers and swans at waverley in 96 last night about 3 this morning. Had Daffy, Meremba Richo and Campbell with the long hair. Roos was playing still. Good game but geez the strength and speed of players has changed a lot in the last 12 years.

Yeh, stayed up to 3.3Oam to watch the Tiggies V the Swans last night...(fell asleep though, didn't see it all)

Now that was 1996, was that the game where Richo had the chance to mark in the dying stages, but gave away the free?

Ahh, old Waverley. Out in the open, big viewing, the unpredictable weather conditions. Shame. Hard Core footy.
AFL should have kept that ground in their back pocket.
Imagine that with a roof now, servicing all sorts of sports for groups and kids for the South East.

Gee....we had some talent (as good as Richmond's talent goes since 1980)

Funny to see Staff rucking for the Swannies.
That turncoat Maxfield.
R.I.P Jamie Tape.
David Bourke  klutz.
Brodders....reliable.
Naish....popping in and out.
Gaspar....looking cut.
Butch Gale...hard nut.
Benny....numbnut.....when marking.

We must have had a better built team then?
(I know, someone will bring up the 'kids' theory)...but we were carrying some then too. Maybe not as many. But that was a bigger team! And an imposing side.

And of course the game style and running was different.

Loved the old knit jumpers. We looked alright.

the thing that struck me most about watching that game was how much harder footy has become, players are preasured much more these days, good skills stood out but either of these teams would be crunched these days by the hard running and posssion style football that is played now there was a lot more kicking to one on one contests.
