How can you hate Richmond.....it's the gift that keeps on giving.

But in all reality, passionate fans and the best club song in the comp bar none.
Richmond supporters.....the true definition of optimism.
The true hate will come if you start winning flags and the supporters get a bit to far ahead of themselves
If we win flags how can we also be ahead of ourselves?

Richmond have been mediocre for decades, achieving no ultimate success.

As soon as supporters get a whiff, BANG!! They all jump on board and brag the **** out their teams success.

No one hated the great Geelong team of 06 - 12. Modest, hard working, loyal.

Think thats why Hawthorn have been the butt of jokes this year. The arrogance and self righteousness to play finals and be successful has got to there heads.

Quietly go about your business and people may find them an attractive club to support. Dont and it could end up very mess once again

Lol what a load of shit, Geelong being modest. Most arrogant supporters out there sharing equal pegging with the Hawks.

Couldn't care less what oppos think of us.

Richmond supporters know more about pain in the last thirty years than any other club in the league and we still get 70k members and fill out the MCG.

As for the comment about garnering respect, get the hell outta here.

In the time I have genuinely followed footy Richmond have been poor, but other older bulldog supporters shudder when talking about Richmond and their arrogance.

So what came first, the hate or Richmond's arrogance?

As Hafey famously said after the 1974 GF: "It was Richmond against the world today - and we won."

The club thrived on being hated.

Pretty neutral on Richmond

The most aggravating thing I think is how quick media are to pump them up (as well as Collingwood) every single year compared to other sides, when there are usually half a dozen other teams that are just as qualified to be pumped up based on their previous season or their off-season moves, the only difference being the size (e.g. North Melboure, Western Bulldogs) or location (SA,WA sides)

This is not Richmonds fault, but I think it contributes to a resentment of them

Who is really pumping us up, though? Name a single journo who has said we are a contender.

Apparently we're "up and about" though, which is about as complimentary as it gets.

I couldn't name any this year, but that probably has a little to do with losing Lids

[QUOT="Ron The Bear, post: 49892449, member: 27506"]So what came first, the hate or Richmond's arrogance?

This Is what I was referring to. Richmond created this us against the world thing under G Richmond and Caros father and the supporters of the time went with it to the extreme. My family are Richmond supporters and were insufferable through that era. ( I met Graeme Richmond a couple of times and he was a nice bloke )

Hahaha what?! You care more than anyone!!

I can only think of KB who does his best to troll folk. Otherwise, the media is just as skeptical of the Tiges as the fans.
I think it is the crowds they attract despite being mediocre. People see the support and mistake it for arrogance when in fact it is simply hope en-masse.

KB is a master troll

I'm old enough to remember when Richmond were a powerhouse but I've never really hated them (extreme dislike of Kevin Bartlett notwithstanding).

In the last 25 years I have found them incredibly amusing because of the extreme frustration and disappointment they invariably invoke in their own supporters. Within games, seasons and across generations. I know this is cruel but it's the clockwork regularity that has made it comical. It's reached the point where I fully expect them to get to 9-0 and then miss finals this season (see North 2016). But they won't, they'll do something more unexpected and even funnier.

If anything, they're one of my favourite things about modern football.

I actually hate the players as much as the scum fans.

Riewoldt is a drama queen with an annoying face.

Cotchin is possibly the worst Brownlow winner of all time.

Martin is inevitably going to end up in a bikie gang once his career ends.

Brandon Ellis, Reece Conca and Nick Vlaustin have faces that irritate me.

Ivan Maric and his stupid mullet.

Vickery was the most unlikable, not much has changed there.

I like them in general terms, I just find them painfully boring to watch under Hardwick so it annoys me when he wins.

By contrast I've never cared much for Melbourne, but I like the way they play so I want them to do well now and win, yet they don't.

Footy sucks lol.

Maybe because I am in Perth and in my 30s but I quite like Richmond and hope they do well. Passionate fans as well which while can be annoying at the same time have to give credit where it's due for them sticking around. I also really like Riewoldt despite a lot of the board seeming not to like him; extremely talented individual who wears his heart on his sleeve
