Neither has Elton but everyone is talking him up as the next big thing for RichmondI have to say Tom didn't do anything impressive!!!! nothing to catch the eye so to speak, nothing that made my nuts twitch!

Yes Dimma and quite a few people on the board as wellWho's done that?
It was actually Dimma that said Elton would play a big role next year with Vickery and Riewoldt.

Way off. What he was taken to task for was posting the same diatribe in threads not even related to drafting trading or list management. General board consensus was that the list needed serious thinning but most people realise that you can't cut half a list in one season, constantly banging on about it in a pretentious and ridiculous manner was why he got panned. Many a time he was taken to task over suggesting we would have upward of 7 delistings and therefore it's not silly at all especially when you now consider that many are now claiming we haven't cut deep enough . He wasn't flawless but on this case he was certainly correct .
As for our list management , he most certainly wasn't/isn't on his own in thinking that we have room for improvement , this thread is evidence of people questioning our list management.
Craig Biddiscombe, great trade on our behalfKent Kingsly..
This is what I don't get, Elton is a first year draftee and get excused for not being ready. Derickx is a second year draftee(effectively a first year player when you consider he missed most of last year with injury), albeit a few years older, and yet he gets belted for not being able to take the game by storm.Yes Dimma and quite a few people on the board as well
My point is in terms of producing something at AFL level, neither Elton or Derrickx have shown anything to justify their position in the team, and nor should they have had to, yet both get talked about very differently. Granted they're both different ages but they're probably getting paid very similar amounts, the difference is Derrickx may only get one more year to prove himself because of it.
Quality postThen we won't have looked very hard if that happens.
I'm fairly confident McGoof wouldn't kick 30 in a year, spuds like him might kick 2 or 3 in dead rubbers againdst crap sides but they invariably go missing in the pressure of important games against good sides.
Second chance? More like 9th chance. Sick of these hanging on to these hacks forever. How worse can an unproven kid or state player be than a proven dud? Experienced at being crap ain't experience worth a damn in my book.
I get the feeling people associate Derickx with the Gold Coast lost, he was in the team when we lost therefore it's his fault and he's shit. Elton was in the team when they lost to Adelaide but Adelaide is 2nd on the ladder so is justifiable. Or you know, they both just could not be ready yet. This is what I don't get, Elton is a first year draftee and get excused for not being ready. Just because he was physically mature when he came to us doesn't mean he was fit enough to play at AFL level. When you add to that he spent a fair chunk of his first season not being able to build any fitness and its only reasonable to excuse him for not dominating even at VFL level. What's not to get?
Derickx is a 24/25, physically mature player with state league experience. He should be a ready go recruit. If he struggles to make an impact even at VFL level after 2 years on the list (granted 1 year was injury affected) why should he be excused? That says to me he's far and away not near the level required and should be moved on.
There's literally dozensOakley- Nicholls?
That paints the picture I reckon. We are finally patiently building a list with depth. Can guarantee we add Chaplin and Knights to the list proper!
Both will be Tigers!
I think it's a fair assumption that if you draft a 23 year old ruckman, you're expecting him to be ready to go. Heck, we've just delisted one who only just turned 22. If Elton hasn't shown anything by 23/24, then he's in a bit of strife.Just because he was physically mature when he came to us doesn't mean he was fit enough to play at AFL level. Derrickx is a late starter with one season in the WAFL and a few seasons in a country team training twice a week for a total of three hours!! I think there may be one hell of a lot of development to do. Ignore the age he is as green as any teenage recruit out of high school. What's not to get?

Depth is only useful if they can come and play a role well to a decent standard. As I said above Derickx even struggled at VFL level. He was gifted a couple AFL games late on and was hopeless. As a 25 year old that should spell immediate delist.
I will be staggered if he stays on the list, absolute staggered. Definition of a list clogger.
That's not right Flea- he had nine disposals http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pg-richmond-tigers--michael-laffy - but he was one of the players I thought of that big Tom had to beat (if that's the right term).
Sorry Flea- I misread footywire as pointed out by DeaDay below- I can see the game you mean- he actually had two handpasses but gave away four free kicks- classic
Stevan Jackson anyone?
Lets see what happens next year, if he is still here, when we have Coburg playing our gameplan with the players in their proper positions.
Next year at this stage we will have only 4 ruckmen in Maric Vickery Graham & Derickx. That should allow us to play 2 at AFL level rotating ruck & forward and the same happening at Coburg with Graham & Derickx alternating. Personally I'd like to see this happen for the next 12 months before we worry about delisting our 3rd-5th string ruckmen in one hit and leaving us with nothing in the cupboard if the situations arises.
