If the complete lists expand this will help, but we would still need to plan if it doesnt. We still need to find inside mids who can cover the ground well and has size, good small defenders and obviously a good tall fwd to help jack and nank.

POPULAR young Tiger Ryan Garthwaite will remain at the club until at least the end of 2019 after quietly signing a one-year contract extension earlier this year.

AFL.com.au understands the 19-year-old, who made his AFL debut on Sunday against Geelong, inked the new deal about two months ago.

I think Lloyd and Miles could play senior football in most other sides and have been unlucky to not fit into our best 22.

We would just do our best to help them into any other team so they could be playing senior football, alternatively extend them another year, both are more than capable backups for injuries in the 22. I don't think we would try use them as trade bait, they have earned the right to try get to the team of their choice.

Short, Grigg and Houli are must keep players, particularly Short.

Next year geez a few great players will be uncontracted will we lose Lambert? His salary will more than double. I'd completely understand if a guy like him went for the extra money after missing out on the chocolates for the start of his career. Jay Clark saying this morning he is worth 800k and I guess if Prestia is he is to.

I'm not denying that at all, just wondering aloud about what the rest of the big 3 signing on for unders does for the bloke who accepted a pay cut at 1.2m a season.

He'd also been pretty underpaid in the years leading up, the other three had been on big coin for a couple of years.

Dusty waited a long time to be paid what he was worth, he wasn't on great money until this latest contract and he did take a whack staying with us instead of going to North. The 3 who took the pay cut are our other 3 club leaders who have been on pretty solid contracts for a long time and are sacrificing for team success above squeezing a bit more in salary. I believe too Lynch is coming to us for less than GC, Collingwood or Hawthorn were willing to pay eager for team success and enamoured by our culture.

We may come out of this with minimal damage due to the sacrifice of our big 3 ... for example only (I have no clue as to the arrangments) say 500k from the kitty and 100k from each and we pretty much cover Lynch. Hampson and Griffin's salaries would more than cover this.

We are going to lose some good footballers who are out of contract which is sad but the way of things. Hopefully we can create opportunities for some of them to slot into other clubs.

GC would be mad not to take pick 3 as compo, there is nothing we could organize to match that, I think we do the Miles trade as a courtesy to both Anthony Miles for his service and as some further artificial compensation for the loss of Lynch. We trade him for a pick in the 80s or 90s which we will never use.

Next year we have ALOT of players to sign.. .I hope we have the cap space. Rioli salary is going to rise a lot, as is Vlastuins and Lamberts. Surely big offers are going to come at Lambert.

Macintosh and Butler will also be in for a rise. I could see Macintosh heading home if Fremantle or West Coast throw a decent chunk of cash at him.

Doesn't the cap increase next year or at least in the next few years. Give them increases and backend them.
