Sell a positive message....YES.
Make things up?..............NO.

Tell me how Hardwick 'worked out' that his team will win a final.
What tools did he use to arrive to this conclusion?

Those sorts of statements come back to bite and bite hard. Be positive, confident, aggressive...........but don't lie.
So you think there is no way that somebody could think that a team that reached finals in the previous 3 years, and has a stronger list than they did then could both reach and win a final next year?

One can think whatever one chooses to think...
Making such a statement on behalf of the club is a different thing though.

Let's ask Benny what he thinks now. :)

I'll make sure the club runs everything past you in future.

Must suck when you turn your oracular powers onto Carlton though...Future there must look even bleaker than Richmond after all.

I can see North Melbourne and even West Coast for a stretch dropping out of the 8 in 2017.
I could see Bulldogs dropping out without their insane luck and umpire bias at winning close games this year. Their forward line and defense are garbage. Lucky the mids are decent.

I can't see Richmond being good enough for finals next year. I think the recent blip of semi success has run its course and it will be back to the bottom as always.

The Tigers can't land big talent and their history of not really helping the players they've got turn the corner doesn't bode well for the future. The list they have isn't strong enough as it is anyway. Perhaps the shake up of coaching personnel may do something but I don't think the Tigs are going anywhere.

Richmond could well turn things around and make the finals next year, but why on earth would you start making statements about winning finals.. I guess Hardwick knows that if the Tigers struggle again next year he's likely out the door anyway, so he may as well put it all on the line.

I'm not sure why Richmond are being written off so hard. This years been shit but it's not like they're a bottom side with a heap of retirees. Their core is still a long way off retirement. Cotchin, Martin, Rance, Riewoldt aren't nearing the end and Deledio didnt play much this year.

They have holes in their list but those same holes were there last year, where they won 15 games. Not saying they will, but there's no reason they can't improve next year. I think most on bigfooty are incapable of viewing teams as anything other than "on the way up" or "on the way down". If you go through the ladder prediction threads the predicted improvers are always the ones that improved in the previous season, and vice versa.

Delusional. Our spot in the 8 looks like the only vulnerable one - you then have the Saints, Dee's, Pies and Port all fighting the Tigers.

They have major holes in the list they won't be able to plug in this trade period.
We hear this line of thought every year, and it's always wrong. This time last year Freo were premiership favourites. Their spot in the 8 wasn't looking vulnerable. Going into 2015 Port's spot in the 8 looked absolutely guaranteed. You don't get bonus points for making the finals the previous year. Everybody starts again on zero.

 What's one got to do with the other?

If Hardwick announced that Richmond will win a final in 2017....he may as well tell us who its going to against and who the top 8 will be.

I'm not being the prophet here....Hardwick is....but what is he basing his understanding on? It's an irresponsible statement that can only bite back.

Rubbish - your 13th and haven't won a final in god knows how long - yet for some reason it will happen in 2017.

Desperate comment from a desperate coach clinging to his job. He sold hope all this year with - we will play finals. Now he is doing it for 2017.

I ain't buying what he is selling - ever again.

I'd be surprised but not shocked if the Tigers made and won a final. Seems they'll keep Deledio and get Prestia. Rance, Martin, Riewoldt will still be top quality. A fit run with injuries and they still have enough quality to beat a lot of sides.

The real question is how do they win a flag and without turning over a lot of the list because I can't see where the depth of talent is coming from.

Jumping right back up the ladder will end up making it harder to find the tall forward, ruck depth, a couple of good running players, a 2nd/3rd tall defender etc. It can be done, Sydney manage to patch those kind of gaps ever year or two, but they have a sustained culture of development and trading.

Very unlikely to happen but what do people expect Hardwick to say?

He's contracted to the end of next year and if they don't win a final he'll almost certainly be out of a job. He's not saying anything we don't already know.

They don't have a 2nd round pick this year either, do they?

The lower they finish, the more they've given to get Yarran..
