we played terribly but still made it close, not ideal but not the worst

we were missing AFL-listed KPF/KPD/rucks in the vfl so despite that we did well, the 3 vfl tall fwds competed very well which was nice to see

looking forward to seeing 5-10 more afl listed players play in the next vfl game

McAuliffe was bloody impressive. Sonsie dominant. Clarke is class, hopefully not injured. Cumberland got better and better as the game went on. Did some great things and some horrible things. Ralphsmtih found it plenty but butchered the s**t out of it. Smith had some moments. MRJ great pressure, poor everywhere else.

Yassine and Archie May look like legit prospects.

It was bloody exciting. I went into the game thinking we have no prospects outside our current list and left thinking I really hope Essendon don't try and pinch our VFL players this time.

* kane would be a pick up if he comes on. completely trade out of a draft and still nab a gun

Much better 2nd half as the team as a whole lifted to kick 12 goals after half time.

Maurice - very lively around the ground with repeat efforts putting a lot of pressure on the opposition. Half a step off having a good game as he was often just grabbed or bumped as he got disposal away.

Hugo - decent enough game, was everywhere in the first half trying to provide run & carry from HB, but lacked composure to have the impact that could have really hurt the Pies.

Clarke - quiet first half, but got more involved in the second. Probably still working his way into full fitness given an interrupted summer with a shoulder injury from last season.

Coulthard - very quiet today, another who has had a very interrupted summer with a knee issue putting him behind the rest of the group

McAuliffe - easily the best of the AFL listed players today. Strong at and also exiting the contest. Ball use was very good as he regularly hit difficult options

Trezise - another quiet performer today, as Hugo seemed to be the preferred option using the ball coming out of the back half.

Cumberland - had a poor first half with some costly turnovers and struggled to impact. Pleasingly he stepped up in the second half to kick 3 goals and have a hand in a handful of others. When he does the simple things well he plays his best. Needs to understand that if he wants to become an AFL regular.

Sonsie - worked well across 4 quarters, like Noah, needs to understand that the simple things are often the best as he got caught out a few times trying to do too much and halted the flow of play. Still should be pushing for early AFL games when his suspension is served.

Smith - showed some real good signs with his pace and ball use coming out of the D50 in the first half. Quieter in the 2nd half as we had more of the ball in our forward half. For a kid who missed a heap of footy last year there is certainly something to work with.

VFL Standouts
Yassine - showed improvement from last year as he played off the wing most of the day, rather than being inside 50 like he was a lot last year. A big year could put him in the frame for a possible rookie spot.

May - has matured in his body composition so that he can now compete in pack situations and hold his own. Another one who could push for a rookie spot with a big year at VFL level.

Davidson - IIRC a new addition to the list this year and certainly showed something today. Competes well in 1-1 contests and has a good turn of speed on the lead to get separation. Could have kicked 4-5 with some composure inside F50.
