Dangerfield protected or Selwood protected? Asking for a friend.

THE EXPLAINATION:

coz it is STUPID!

Wet Coast nuffies , continually whinge about being confined to Western Australia.

GWS nuffies ought be delighted they get to play, the biggest game EVER in their history, outside of Blacktown !

The draw can never be fair, but the best teams to handle SUCH, get to the big dance!

There is a reason West Coast and Fremantle have a lot fewer 300 game players than other clubs and that reason is because travelling takes its toll on the body. Doing it once in a blue moon is fine but every second week does make things harder.
Richmond have not had a 300 game player since the early 80s. Clearly stacks of home games at the MCG is a factor. We’re so disadvantaged.

Fremantle have only 1 fewer 300 game player than Richmonds entire history. Melbourne only have 1. Collingwood have 3.

300 games isn't easy, no matter where you play.

Richmond's first 15 rounds of 2019:

Neutral vs Blues @ MCG
Neutral vs Pies @ MCG
Away vs Giants @ SS
Away vs Power @ AO

Home vs Swans @ Marvel
Neutral vs Demons @ MCG
Neutral vs Dogs @ Marvel
Away vs Dockers @ Optus
Neutral vs Hawks @ MCG
Neutral vs Dons @ MCG
Neutral vs Kangas @ Marvel
Home vs Cats @ MCG
Away vs Crows @ AO
Neutral vs Saints @ Marvel
Away vs Suns @ Metricon

Doesn't look so easy there. They played every Marvel tenant at Marvel too.

You didn't really answer the question so I'm going to guess the answer is no difference.

You guys have actually proven you can play away so just own that you have heaps of games at home. Richmond clearly the best team this year and it was only injuries that made it look close.

Collingwood actually played more games at the 'G this year than we did. 🤷‍♂️

Studies have shown that exposure to extensive travel does take an extra toll on players based in Queensland and Perth. KPI’s drop off significantly after 200 games or so when compared to players from Victoria, Sydney and Adelaide.

The 300 game mark is misleading as most players are physically able to reach that number of games, it’s more to do with the fact that a Matthew Pavlich or David Mundy only performing at 80% of their career output for example were / are still better players than most others on the Dockers list so continued to play on

The MCG is everyone's home ground, it's not some sort of boutique home ground like Kardinia Park . Everyone knows the ground back the front, Richmond is just a superior side this year, get over it.

Agreed the fixture and the MCG (note to OP pollster not MVG!) is HISTORY and to be revered as a treasure to ALL!

However, the bogans from Blacktown who rarely play to more than 15K at home ( 50% don't speak proper Engerlash)

might just prove who is "superior" next Saturday!?????

Re Swans game: Arguably, at that time, the Docklands was a far better venue for the Swans than it was for Richmond. Dubious advantage to the home team there.

Care to link to these studies? I assume that are peer reviewed and have a meaningful sample size?

It’s all covered in the book ‘footballistics’ which is basically a football nerds bible

Does this undermine the integrity of the competition? Yes.

Richmond finished last year on top of the table with 18 wins. Their fixture as the reigning premier then looked unfair enough.
How did the AFL allow this fixture to eventuate in the first place?

Try this:
"Richmond finished on top of the table in 2018. So the AFL decided to punish them by having them play only 1 'home' game in their first 10 games where they had a genuine home ground advantage (and that was Round 10). The home game where they had a 'genuine home ground advantage' were against sides that both played 4 of their 2018 home games at the MCG anyway (on their request). Richmond went interstate more often than they played games with a Home Ground advantage. This severely unbalanced fixture put the Tigers under real pressure at the start of the year, and they spent much of the first 3/4s of the season struggling outside the 8.

On the whole year, they played 6 home games at their home ground where they had a genuine home ground advantage - and 2 of them where against sides (Carlton and Essendon) that each requested to play 4 home games at Richmond's Home ground.
On the whole year, Richmond played 8 games where the opposition had a genuine Home ground advantage.

How did the AFL allow this unfair fixture to eventuate in the first place?"
