No, for what it's worth, I still see our list as decent, we have plenty of quality players,
I don't, but nor do I rate my own list.

The problem I see for Richmond is that they will bottom out again at the worst possible time.

I could not understand why you didn't draft many players last year, when you're going to have to have another big clean out this year, when the club already knew the forthcoming draft was going to be stuffed. Especially when the 08 draft was seen as quite deep... and knowing this coming one wont be...

The drafting problem might be bad this year for Melbourne, Freo, WC etc... but it's going to be even worse for the clubs bottoming out just after us. Richmond, Sydney... and maybe a few others...

I think that's what the article was getting at.

I know it was, and you have probably watched Richmond quite a few times, no Coburg so there is a slight hole, but enough to come to that conclusion and I'm okay with that but I don't agree with this Hibbard bloke who reckons he can analyse a list and expect it to be taken seriously by reading the AFL prospectus to come to his conclusions.

No, but your overall recruitment strategy should reference it.

If the conclusion is that this year's draft is deep, but the next one is not, you make all your borderline calls early.

Richmond didn't seem to do that, and it baffled me. And that's what the article seems to be pointing out. Not that he formed his conclusions from the prospectus, but they failed to even reference it for their overall strategy.

Richmond's list, much like Freo's, has a lot of borderline players who aren't ever going to step up. And the best players for both are gone in a year or two. It's worrying for both teams.

:)I THINK a clue into the recruiting people's thinnking - or should I say lack of thinking - came on draft day last year when Brisbane took that Bart McCulloch guy, who we had an eye on.
Not only did the Lions overhear us on who we were going to take with our next pic, we seemed to panic and didn't use the pick at all until the pre-season draft, re-claiming Gourdis.
We didn't seem to have the capbility to have a back-up plan!!! Look entirely unprofessional!

We actually used that pick on Cousins, Gourdis was re-claimed in the rookie draft with our second pick.

Yep.

Much like us. We obviously expected to get Swift at 21, and ballsed up on Ballantyne because apparently we had thought WC would draft him at 20.

Completely panicked.
