Richo is not one of the greatest forwards of all time, in his prime or otherwise. He has always been a great footballer but he is nowhere near an elite group of the best of all time. That is the truth. He played one of his best seasons this year, but as a forward he was frustrating and inconsistent.

Tredrea was for a few years the best forward in the competition. Richo wasn't. Tredrea is also a grade A tool, and his lack of recent form compared with Richo hitting more form lately, is also something to consider, but at their peaks, Tredrea was miles in front.

More or less sums up my position on the issue, minus the bit about Tredrea being a grade A tool.

Richo has always been a better mark then tredrae.

I love it how almost everyone who has gone for Richo in this thread can't even spell Tredrea's name correctly. I mean ffs - it's not Treadrea or Tredrae or Treadre, it's T-r-e-d-r-e-a. You would've thought/hoped that people proclaiming to have followed his career closely enough to contribute credibly to this thread would at the very least know how to spell his name correctly. But no, seeing as the vast majority of Richo fanboiz have probably seen Warren Tredrea play about 4 times ever I'm not that surprised.

Great post.

As for the A grade tool part, that would be correct onfield. He played at his best with arrogance, as does any champion or matchwinner. I wont deny that.

Off field, he is a gentleman, and always has time for fans. I've spoken to him personally and he was fantastic, and i've heard plenty of stories from Port supporters who have interacted with him who have nothing bad to say. He's a great ambassador for our club.

For ages I couldn't understand why he's been so hated for so many years, but someone pointed out to me recently that your average person has trouble seperating his on field persona with the person he is off field.

I don't thing Tredrea plays arrogantly anyway... and he is a top bloke believe it or not. the only thing that he has ever done wrong was that bow as it immediately placed him in the Chad Cornes category (A-grade ********). But the fact is he isn't.

Wayne Carey used to get booed all the time by the crowd because he came across as aarogant on the field. I thought this was sad because he was incredible to watch and great for the game. He too is a good bloke believe it or not.

I think the hatred for Tredrea stems more from the fact he plays for port and everyone just hates port and always has and as long as there supporters keep breeding always will.... no one has ever liked their forwards. back in the day no one could stand that bogan hodges or that joke darren smith... now it's Tredrea.

and like thunderpower says he is a gentleman and good bloke.

Roger Fedderer, Tiger Woods and Gary Ablett are such arrogant champions aren't they. The reality is only a few are arrogant on field, and those people are known as w***ers.

ahaha have a cry, as if i could care how you spell tredrea doesn't change the fact he's not as good as richo. He has 800 odd goals ffs and is a better footballer in a shocking team. When tredders was good he had a great team. Not that that means much but richo has carried the tigers for years.

What an elite athlete is like when they cross the white line is often nothing like they are as a person.

For every well liked top level champion you could name, I could name one that is generally disliked. Team sports I am talking about, you don't get the same level of dislike in individual sports.

As for your examples, Federer crushes and humiliates opponents regularly on the court, and is a gentleman off the court. Ablett was clearly upset when he didn't win the Brownlow because he knows how good he is and that his season deserved that kind of accolade. Who would disagree? Champions have to believe they are the best, it's pretty much a requirement.

But does it with humility, not like a w***er.

Gablett knows he's the best but doesn't strut around like he is.
